2007 TL-s Ticking/Clicking under acceleration
I have a 2007 TL Type-S w/ 114k miles on it. Under medium-heavy acceleration, it will make RANDOM ticking/metallic clicking 3,000RPM and above, or above 30 MPH.
I cannot replicate it just revving in neutral, and I cannot replicate it if I tell the tip tronic to force it to stay in 1st gear.
The ticking/clicking is completely random, like a bad drummer learning how to play, does not increase with RPM/Speed until I reach my desired speed (70mph). However it does not do it if I accelerate lightly.
I had my valves done about 10k miles ago, so that problem is gone (used to have loud valves)

where is the sound coming from? sounds like maybe an exhaust leak, jpipe flex material worn away. how long does the sound last for when it starts?

I can't quite tell.. Engine bay? Maybe under? The sound is only present when I'm under medium - heavy acceleration (50%+ of throttle). It starts once I pass 30mph, or 2800rpm or so, then stops when I let off the gas. If I accelerate semi-quickly from 70-80mph, I'll hear it again.

quite often in Honda's the spark plug likes to eject.
the heads are aluminum; which is a soft metal.
most people hear a ticking noise before a spark plug ejects.
its usually cylinder # 5.
its the middle one closest to the radiator.
Check it to see if its not loose. if it is, tighten it.

check spark plugs and are there any other symptoms? loss in power/mpg?
how many miles on the car? I know the injectors are known to tick as well

I'm taking it to a shop today to have the pads and rotors replaced and I'll have them check it. It's not a constant ticking that follows the RPM, it sounds like a muted drum cymbal being hit at complete randomness that DOESNT follow the RPM, once I pass 3,000RPM or 3rd gear and higher. I CANNOT recreate it in first or second gear (speed of how fast I'm going I assume). Car has 114k on it. Power/mpg is still at the usual avg of 21-22 per fillup.

I found a thread here on acurazine that closely resembles what I have: except mine is all the time / moreso when everything is warmed up:
SYMPTOM
While driving under light acceleration, you hear an intermittent pinging, rattling, or squealing from the engine compartment. The noise can easily be mistaken for an engine ping or a spark knock. In some cases, the noise happens only during engine warm-up.
PROBABLE CAUSE
The intermediate shaft heat shield is loose in its mounting bushings.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the intermediate shaft heat shield and any specified nuts or gaskets.
