Oil leaking between engine and oil pan

Oil leaking between engine and oil pan
Its a little wet with oil at the front side of the pan and I want to fix this myself. Is there anything special i should know before I get on this project? It's my understanding that i should use some sort of white liquid gasket and that's it?

I've never changed an oil pan gasket but I understand that it's not as simple a process as you'd think. I'd look up some information online or YouTube. Or better yet, get a hold of the tech manual and follow it step by step.

The sealer, your referring to, is called Honda Bond. Great STUFF! Changing oil pan seal, is not as easy as it sounds. FWIW, I would make certain, it’s the oil pan seal, causing the leak. There are a couple other things, in the same area, which could make it appear the leak is coming from the pan. Oil Pump Leaks, are a common problem, and when they leak, the oil appears to be coming from the pan seal. There is also a VTEC solenoid housing, in the same general area, above the oil filter, which sometimes leaks. If it does prove to be the oil pump seal, and the leak is not serious, You may want to consider waiting until You’re next timing belt service, to repair it, as most parts removed to service the timing belt, must also be removed, to replace the oil pump seal.

Most important thing is to use the proper torque specs and tighten in the proper sequesmce.any people have been able to do it by hand/feel, but I must be special because I was always left with leaks or busted studs from trying to “feel it out” lol

Great suggestion Ossman14. It doesn't take a lot of effort, to snap the pan bolts, especially, for someone, who is not familiar with the process. FWIW: It's also a good idea, to TEST FIT, the pan, at least a couple of times, before applying the Honda Bond, for the final install, ASK ME HOW I KNOW!

It's probably the oil pump that's leaking, not the oil pan gasket/hondabond. You should look up a little more, next to the serpentine belt auto tensioner, and see if that area is wet first.

Usually when this happens and they see oil coming from the timing cover, once the cover is removed they'll find that it's actually coming from the oil pump gasket. In order to change THAT out will require dropping the oil pan and a ton more money. As others have said, opt to do it at the next TB if it's super slow. I usually have to put in maybe half a quart of oil every 1500miles or so, and I'm at 137k miles.

'ASK ME HOW I KNOW' Looks like I will have to go in and repeat the job, mine is still leaking. Do you have any suggestions on whether to use Permatex or go with Hondabond?
