2006 TL Auto Transmission Issues

Yesterday I was driving our TL Auto and it got stuck in 3rd and 4th gear, 20 MPH and RMPS were at 4,000. Tried to manually shift into 5th with no luck. After about 3 miles, it started working fine...for 5 more miles, then it started-up again, doing the same thing.

I'm really hoping the transmission doesn't need to be replaced and perhaps there's a reset code or a computer chip that might be the problem. Vehicle has 133,000 miles, but extremely well maintained.

Any ideas what it might be? Thanks in advance!

New 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches and some new fluid may help you. clean all screens and replace filter when at it. I would not drive it until you do or you may just burn up your clutches.

I suggest you arm yourself with knowledge and read through this thread (and other transmission threads after searching), and then do what pohljm suggested above--replace your 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches and change your ATF. These transmissions require some TLC to keep going. Good luck.
