2006 TL 5AT; hesitation between reverse and drive after fluid change

Last weekend I started a 3x3 tranny fluid exchange. I ordered parts to replace the ATF filter but decided to do a 1x3 first and finish the other 2x3 after the parts came in. I was also leery about getting the filler bolt out so decided to do the refill via the dipstick.

I didn't have a way to measure the volume of fluid that was drained, so after I did the drain started with 2.5 qts of DW-1. Took the car down off the stands, drove around the block, check that it shifted properly. Put into drive, neutral, reverse three or four times. Seemed fine. Came back to the house and checked the level, and it seemed full.

Next day, heading to work (about a 10 mile round trip) noticed that there was a hesitation after backing out of the driveway before 1st gear would engage (something between 1 to 3 seconds). Did this every time I backed up. When I got home, I measured the volume of the drained ATF and found I had drained a little over 3 qts. I then put the rest of the 0.5 qts DW-1 in. Again, test drove around and the hesitation seemed to be less. This morning, however, seems about the same as before.

Any suggestions? I haven't read anything about the DW-1 being that different from the older Honda ATF so I don't think it's the fluid. I also don't see how if could be from filling through the dipstick hole, but maybe I'm just dense?

Well, did the dipstick indicate full after everything up to temp?

Also, reverse to first is never instantaneous as there is always a delay, normal.

The level on the dipstick appeared to be in the correct range even before I added the last 1/2 qt.

If there was a hesitation before I never noticed it (or it wasn't very noticeable), but it's very obvious now.

Follow-up after second drain and fill

Decided to do the second drain and fill this morning, but bite the bullet and use the fill hole instead of the dipstick tube. Found a 15" by 1/2" extension for my torque wrench and undid the fill bolt (not as hard as I expected) and put in the second 3.2 qts. Ran the car around the block testing all the gears and the long lag between reverse and drive is gone. I decided to put off the final drain/refill for a week just to see if it stays gone.

Then you must have a one of a kind TL, an experimental model. Nothing will change the electronics.
