2006 Acura TL tech package, transmission
whats going on guys. Newly registered member to the forum but have followed and learned a lot from y'all by reading your post. I've only acuras in my life 2003 Acura TL and a 2006. I've come across a weird scenario lately and was hoping someone here can help me.
My TL has been acting funny and I believe I'm stuck with a big problem. It's getting cold outside (come from Toronto) and I've noticed that when my car turns on there's a jumpy feeling when the car is powered on. I also noticed that when shifting gears from P to R there's a grinding noise and when shifting to D there is a slight pause. I didn't make much of it at the time as I got lot on my mind (getting married) assumed it was due to the cold. Well things did get worse, my gears started to slip while driving the car, had a hard time going over 40km/h as the rpms were shooting up and down and there was a jerking motion happening. This all happened during my road test.
Engine light came on and i panicked as it is the first time I've seen one on this car. Turned off the car and turned it back on and tried again, while shifting from P to D I noticed that there was no motion coming from the tranny, I pressed the accelerator and I kid you not I should have been going well over 100 km/h but the car wasn't moving. I believe it is my transmission and needs to be replaced, anyone been through this before and also I've been shopping around locally through independent mechanics and I've been quoted up to 4000. A buddy of mine got me in touch with one mechanic that would get me a used transmission for 1000 and 500 for labor. Transmission that hes offering has 188000 clicks, am i making a mistake if i go through with this my car currently has 222000 clicks. Need help boys I miss driving my baby already

With cold weather, the fluid thickens and any restriction will cause a possible
problem. I would first change the filter and fluid to be sure, cheap and easy,
then go from there. A used trans with 188,000km/116,000 miles for $1500 installed
is hit and miss, even if the trans is guaranteed, labor won't be unless the yard does
the job and guarantees both. Depending on your location, there a some 2006
transmissions with low mileage located in Canada.

I got the car to finally move, it's been sitting on my street for two days. Tested it out by shifting gears, noticed at first the car wasn't moving when on drive until the rpm hit three, i let the rpm come down a bit and noticed the car moving as if it finally caught a gear. I'm going to get it towed in the morning and have it checked out. I have my fingers crossed
