2005 TL Rought Idle while stopped.

My 05 TL AT with 107,000 miles idles rough when I come to a stop. I feel vibration in the steering wheel. When I accelerate slightly it completely goes away and is also gone when I put the car in neutral. It seems like RPM's go up about 100rpm when in neutral and is smooth as butter. It also has this vibration when I shift to reverse.
The car actually went through the 105K service last Friday.. So new timing belt, water pump, spark plugs, and valve adjustment.
Always run premium and had the fuel injection system cleaned less than a year ago when fuel pump failed.
The car runs great otherwise.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Do you have a CEL? I had the same issue and within a few miles the cel came on for code p0141 or something. I can't remember but it was a simple fix. All I had to do was take off the egr (2 bolts) and clean it and put or back together. Took me longer to find a 10mm socks to get it off than it took to complete the job lol.

GL.

I have not checked the motor mounts. And the issue is there when the car is warm. No CEL.
If the motor mounts were bad, wouldn't it also vibrate in neutral?

Thanks everyone!

My engine mounts were broken as hell. Front and side
Had the vibration at R but not on D.
Only R

May be it's the transmission mount.

Do you hear this at bumps?
If yeah, then it is engine mounts

Try this to check the engine mounts

Try disconnecting the negative power cable on your battery for a few minutes, and then start the car back up. Let it idle for a while, as this will let the ECU relearn the idle.

A dirty/bad EGR valve will have a rough idle, whether warm or cold. It may take a few days before the dirty EGR valve activates the CEL and throws a code. My TL had the EGR replaced @ 90K miles, IIRC.

You may want to pull and clean the EGR valve per quanaman's post above.

Thanks guys.
MEKO, no, I don't hear anything going over bumps.

I'll look into the EGR valve and idle relearn.
Thanks!

Wait-- try the idle relearn first.

I just read your 1st post about the timing belt replacement just before the idle issue appeared.

G/L!

When I posted that I was on my phone, so I wasn't able to include these links.

Hope this helps. The first and second links provides a pretty good DIY's on cleaning the EGR. Solved my issue almost instantly.

Thanks everyone. I did the relearn last night. Unplugged battery for 20 minutes then let it idle for about 15 minutes.
I did a brief test in the driveway and it didn't vibrate when stopped in "D".
My wife will let me know later when she drives to work.
I did locate the EGR valve and was ready to clean it but decided to wait and see how the relearn goes.
Thanks again.

rough idle can be from a lot of things. do you have a CEL? A bad O2 sensor, vac leaks, and sticky IACV valve can cause rough idle. I'd start with cleaning the EGR or idle control valve.

Did the idle relearn and my wife didn't notice any vibration yesterday.
Hopefully that did the trick. Thanks everyone!

I am having the same issue. My 2005 TL (97K miles) just got out of the body shop after a very minor accident. It spent 8 days there (most of it in the heated shop). It ran perfectly before, but now I have the inconsistent idle. Warm or cold it seems to fluctuate about 200 rpm when i am sitting still. This happens in park and drive.

It is very cold out now, with highs that are barely above zero.

Is this something that the shop should be responsible for or is it just coincidence that it happened while they had the car?

Do the idle relearn... and make sure your HVAC is off - having it on AUTO will cycle the AC Compressor, which can cause your idle to fluctuate and cause vibrations.

I too have an 05 TL and it started running rough at idle. I just had the water pump and timing belt replaced when this new issue popped up. The dealer wanted $430 to replace it. I think NOT!!!!! I left the dealership and went straight to Auto Zone, bought the EGR Valve for $75 and replaced it myself. I'm a girl and I did it in 2 hours. She's running like a dream now! (There are two nuts that hold the Valve in place and they are harder than hell to get off... I did need a little help getting those off.) Yay! Good luck!

My 05 does the same thing. I will disconnect the negative battery cable and see if this helps.

My compliance bushings, control arm, and motor mounts fixed what sounded exactly like your problem. I was having all sorts of noises, the noise in reverse was fixed by redoing 3 blown mounts. Another rough idle noise was fixed with the same, and control arm and mounts fixed my car feeling like the engine was going to drop out over bumps....
