2005 TL gear shifter stuck in Park, then N to D

Short on time, I've been using the good ol' screwdriver to unlock my automatic gear shift for a few weeks now, but it's time to get to the bottom of this.

One day the shifter wouldn't get out of Parking gear, brakes pressed down and everything. Pressed the manual unlock tab with the screwdriver, put it in Reverse, then it gets stuck again going from Neutral to Drive. Quite a pain to parallel park

The other observation is that when I hold the brake down for 15 seconds, the shifter will often unlock on its own.

I've heard it could be the brake switch, but my brake lights come on so that would eliminate that possibility. Maybe the switch lock solenoid?

Any ideas/resources? Thanks!

Thanks for the part number. I'll have to make sure that's the source of the problem, before all that prying apart of the console. Diagnostic should do it.

^Just check with a MM to be certain there is power going to the solenoid with the brake applied.

I decided to dig through the console to see what was going on in there with the stuck shifter. I had spilled some liquid in there and maybe that was the cause of the problem.

I got into the main compartment that houses the shifter and some other pieces in there. It looked pretty clean. I noticed that specifically there was one white, plastic lever that unlocked the shifter when the brakes were pressed down. Sometimes this lever didn't move when I pressed on the breaks, and when it did it was very slow and delayed the shifter from unlocking.

Any ideas on what this little lever is and where there may be a disconnect from break to shifter?

Greetings, did you ever get to the bottom of this problem? Was it the brake light switch or the shift lock solenoid? THX.
