2005 Code P0344
2005 Code P0344
Hello gang!
So much good info on the site but I'm a little stumped and just need some pressure on what way to go with this code.
Problem: VSA and the CEL both on.... Limp mode active
History: About 1200 miles ago I did the timing belt and water pump. Did the ECU reset and revved the engine and got the idle set. Did notice an extra second to get the car to start but figured it was the new air cone filter/weak starter/my own mind.
Getting on the freeway when going onto VTEC is hiccuped and threw above lights and scanned P0344 code.
-camshaft position sensor
-timing misalignment
-ecu failure
Current: I figured I may have screwed up the timing so I just took it apart again to make sure. Timing is right on point.
I saw some people talking about the throttle position sensor or accelerator position sensor as an easy fix.... But this wouldn't throw a camshaft sensor code right? (Would be a nice 10 min fix though)
Should I finish taking the timing belt off again just to swap these sensors out? Timing is kind of shitty so I may need to use AutoZone sensors over waiting on Acura parts....also not preferred.
Are camshaft sensors known to go out? I was really hoping to blame my shoddy work and just fix the timing belt but that would be too easy for my karma levels.
Do I do both banks for the sensors? I know I have to do something besides just resetting the ECU and waiting for it to pop on again.

P0344 is specifically for an intermittent interruption from bank 1 camshaft position sensor.
First step is to do a test drive and use your scan tool to read the live data from that sensor. You want to make sure it's providing a data readout to the ECU.
Assuming it's not, the shop manual lists the following potential culprits:
-Lose connection at the CMP sensor, ECU, or a ground
-Damaged pulsar plate on the camshaft (did you remove the valve cover from bank 1?)
-Malfunctioning CMP sensor
Good luck with your diag and repair.
