'08 TL Type S foglights not working
hey guys. I have a 08 tl type s. foglight is not turning on. first I thought the bulbs where out replace them with and hid kit and nothing , fuse looks good. turned on the headlights and foglight the foglight icon turned on on the dashboard but the lights itself does not turn on. what else could it be?
Hey I posted in your other thread: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/help-finding-2008-tl-s-fog-light-relay-886835/
Did you ever check the relay? You should hear it click under the dashboard when you turn the switch ON/OFF.
You replaced the fog lamps with HID bulbs? Do you have an HID kit with ballasts, harnesses etc? Or did you just grab an H8 HID bulb and plug it into the factory wiring? Because that won't work.

I would love to help you out man, but I'll need some more details!
What kind of kit did you get? Did you follow the installation instructions? Did your stock fog lamps work normally before you installed the HID kit?

I bought the 35watt hid kit from hidextra.com, installed stock wiring to ballast using their wiring and bulb to ballast. Fog wasn't working before, bought the car about a month ago.
Oh man.... the general rule of thumb (especially around here) is to perform maintenance and repairs before doing any mods.
I suggest getting your factory fogs working before trying to get the HID kit working. Once the factory fogs are working, installing the HID kit should be a piece of cake.
Here is what I know about the fog lamps on the 07-08 TLs. The combination light switch on the left side of the steering wheel is connected to a control module. The light control module is connected to a larger control module and they communicate via CAN bus.
The first thing that happens when you turn your fog lights on is that these modules communicate with each other, and the fog light relay should turn on. This should be your first troubleshooting step. Do you hear the fog relay clicking under the dash when you turn the switch ON/OFF??? If that relay doesn't turn on, your problem is somewhere between the combination switch and the relay. It could be a bad combination switch, or (knock on wood) a bad control module, or something as simple as a loose connection.
If the relay IS clicking, then the problem is after the relay. The first thing I would check would be the fog light connectors. Make sure they aren't damaged and that the contacts are not broken or corroded. They are quite exposed, after all.
Next, measure the voltage output at the fog light connector with a DMM when the fog lights are ON. If it's 0, then you have an open circuit that should be obvious to find. Either something is completely disconnected, or a wire is cut or something like that.
If it's floating somewhere above 0, then you have a high-impedance connection that is more difficult to track down since they are usually hidden... It might be a pinched wire, or another connector with a dirty or loose contact. The best way to find these is to trace the wire back to the next connector and measure the voltage there. If it is the same, keep going. If it is stable, then the problem is between that point, and the one you measured previously.
These steps should help you narrow the problem down. Let us know if you have any questions and how your investigation goes!
