'08 RPM Fluctuation/Transmission Issues

Good Afternoon Everyone,

I have a 2008 that I purchased back in February. Last week an odd problem began while in traffic when the automatic transmission seemed to be shifting sporadically when in automatic mode. I sort of panicked and began to think the transmission was going bad. It was downshifting in the lower gears (1-3) at different speeds than usual and felt like it was going to stall out even while I was at points such as 2,000 rpm. When it did shift it was rougher than usual as well in terms of smoothness. I did some research and then drove it again while in the sport shift mode where I could control when it shifted. The shifts were smoother and the car was operable; however, I noticed that at random times it seemed when I would let off the gas to coast, for instance, that the RPMs would drop drastically for a moment and then bounce back up and even out where they were supposed to be. There was also an overall lack of power/torque at certain periods than what it usually would have been before this began. There is no CEL and the car idles at around 750 rpm.

This weekend I hope to take it to a coworkers dad's shop where we can take a look at it and I would love to have a starting point/ideas of what the cause could be. Any help is much appreciated!
