07 TLS Transmission problems?
My friend is considering buying an 07 TLS. Did they, or did they not get the transmission problems on these cars resolved completely? I went to the dealership yesterday and there were probably 30 TLS Autos and only 1 TLS Stick. I think he would personally rather have the stick, but he's buying this so his wife can drive as well, so it needs to be an auto.

Personally i dont think they will ever solve their tranny problems completely, they have done things to try and make them better, but are not yet bullet proof, i wouldnt worry about the trans if you change the fluid religiously and drive normal it should last alot longer, i wouldnt worry about the trans problems they for the most part get covered under warranty and if out they will goodwill it because of all of the know problems!

Thanks for the info. I think that might just be enough for him to hear to steer him clear of the car. Have there been any 06/07's that have exhibited the same transmission problems that anyone knows of? I probably should post that as a topic.

I believe that they use the RL's automatic transmission in the TL-S (along with the 3.5 engine).
In any event, there was a transmission fix implemented in production halfway through the 2004 model year. They added a lubrication/cooling line to second gear which is where a potential problem was.
As mentioned, Acura has stood behind their transmissions and even extended the warranty on some years to 100,000 miles. Over and above that, the factory is quick to provide help on transmission issues should they come up.
Currently, I don't think there are any more tranny issues than with other, similar vehicles. Some marques are much worse.

Tell your friend to get the g35 so he can have tranny, oil consumption ,and driveshaft problems. You can't judge your purchase off of internet problems. Some people that have car problems won't admit they drive crazy, or like crap, or redline they whip then press the brake pedal to the floor to drift, then wonder why there having problems with a tranny or anything else. Trust me the TL is a cut above the competiton

Thanks for all the input guys. My friend, as am I, have always been honda people so the decision will be based on the cars merits. He has an 01 CLS now with 70K miles on it and has not had the tranny problem yet, but I've told him about it from this forum. He just wants to be careful.

If you are speculating, then say so and we will know how much weight to give it.
