07 tls topping out at 5500 rpms

why would it start doing this? i'm taking it in today.

the car jerks when i take it that high in any gear as if i'm red-lining it...

it did it a few times last week and i had the music up and thought i had just made a mistake b/c normally i wouldn't even take it that high. (i may not know much about cars, but i at least know how to drive them).

now the check engine light is on...

oh and one time it forced the VSA to shut off...

any ideas?

Auto or 6 speed?

What does it do if you rev in neutral?

It is probably a good idea to take it in or at least get the CEL code checked.

its 6-speed MT... haven't tried to rev that high in neutral... but i imagine it would do the same...

it drives fine other than this issue (although i don't want to cause any potential damage)

thanks for the response. any ideas on what kind of effort and moolah it will cost to get this fixed (if it is in fact the problem you guys think it might be)?

Shouldnt cost any money if your under 50K miles, unless you did something to cause it other than natural driving.

X2. It sounds like Limp mode. It is basically what the computer does when there is a malfunction to protect the engine from the driver...
