when you say "shuts down"

does that mean the engine is off?

stuck as in you couldn't push the pedal down?

Sounds like something happened internally in the clutch. either the throwout bearing blew up or a clutch disk spring escaped and got jammed somewhere.

Sounds like a bad clutch master or slave cylinder, check your clutch fluid reservoir level. Sounds like you lost hydraulic pressure allowing the clutch to fully engage stalling the car.
