Suddenly today our TL won't shift into park or reverse. My husband is totally not handy, and I did some online searching and used a screw driver to manually release it or whatever that does and it worked like a charm, but I have to do it EVERY time.

Any ideas on what is causing this?

I would check your brake switch. As you know you have to step on the brake to shift from Park so the switch maybe be going. Do your brake lights work? Radio? Dashboard lights? I would need to check again but believe there is a fuse tied to a couple of these. Might be worth checking your fuses.
