'06 TL transmission problem

I bought a used 2006 Acura TL from a reputable dealer and have kept up with all of the maintenance by the book. Today when I was pulling into a parking spot it felt like the transmission was in neutral until i have it some gas and it moved. On the way home every time it changed gears it took about 4 seconds to gear up. When I got home i changed the transmission fluid to see if that would help the problem. Unfortunately that did not fix the problem. after changing the fluid I took it for a test drive and it worked well for about a mile then it started slipping to the point that i couldn't drive it. Switching from park to reverse or drive takes about 6 seconds before the transmission responds and there is a metal clanking sound when it finally does shift. I've checked around and a lot of people are talking about their transmissions going out. Is this the same kind of problem? There were no warning signs that it was going out either.

Mileage- 142,000mi
Engine- 3.2L V6 (no additions)

Sounds like the tranny is on its way out, when did you buy the vehicle from the dealership? They could've sold you a lemon.

What ATF did you replace it with? If it was DW1, then it sounds like the old fluid was pretty thick and the new stuff is thinner. Since you only did one drain and fill, I'd do a 3 more but with a thicker fluid, either Red Line High Temp or Racing (Type-F, not Lightweight Type-F).

Let us know the fluid first.

In general, if your transmission has over 100k miles and they've never replaced the fluid, don't. Just drive it until it goes. Usually the wear materials build up in the fluid and the trans will only operate in the syrup.
