06 TL radio issue

The factory stereo in my 2006 TL gets stuck sometimes. I do not have NAVI. There is no volume and I can not change the station or volume and I am not able to turn off the radio. The only thing that gets it working again is to turn the car off completely and restart it. Any ideas? Thanks

Mine just started doing this everytime i hit a bump in the road. I have Navi though. Havent had a chance to look at all the connectors yet but i too have to turn my car off and turn it back on... Luckily i can do it while still moving. 6spd.

Its acting like something is grounding out internally and it just shuts off the radio.

You probably have to have it repaired. These guys fixed mine a couple of years ago.

Sounds like an actual issue with the radio circuitry. If you are handy with DIY and comfortable removing the dash surround and radio you might get lucky by just taking your time and examining the boards for shorts or bad wires or maybe a bad fuse. Good chance you won't be able to find it, but if you got time to kill...

If you are not handy and/or do not want to put time or energy into it then I would suggest just upgrading the radio to a cheap aftermarket unit. The oem radio in your car was most likely made in 2003 so just about any plain radio from modern times will be as good.

Last option is to try to find a cheap used oem one at like a junkyard or from a parts car and swap it and see what happens. Or maybe someone knows a fix.

Probably bad connections internally. Electronics manufacturing switched to all Pb(lead) free solder a number of years ago. I've been working on electronics for 30 years,,,,and the last 10, the problems with cold solder has skyrocketed. If you're close, I would be happy to go over it. Pull the radio, and come over, we can solder it up in probably less than an hour.
