06' TL driver's side mirror

When I first received my 06' TL (5AT) brand new a little under a year ago my driver's side mirror would point down near my rear wheel when putting my car in reverse. Now, it does not do this anymore. This may sound insanely dumb...but I was wondering if the mirror if supposed to stay stationary, or if it is supposed to give you a better view of thew rear tire area while in reverse (what it did initially). I need to know if I should take it in for warranty repair or not!

Any help would be much appreciated; thank you.

From what I know, the mirror IS supposed to point down when you reverse - ONLY if you have your automatic mirror control set either to the driver or passenger side. However, if you put the switch in the middle, the tilt-down mirror feature becomes disabled.

I would first check to see if your mirror switch is in the middle or at the driver/passenger side.

Note to others: If I'm wrong, please do not hesitate to correct me.

Nope, you're correct. I remember when I didn't know about the tilt-down feature, I played around with it and yep, put the seeting to either passenger or driver depending on what you like/need.

The reason I wasn't sure was because I just bought a 2006 TL 6spd last week and I haven't had time to drive/play around with all the functions yet. This forum is definitely very helpful and in the near future, I will try to return the favor as soon as I get to know my car..hehehe...

I always keep the passenger side set to point downward during reversing..it makes it a lot easier to make sure you don't hit the curb during parking.

Oh my thank you everyone...typically I'm a little more adept at stuff like this, but seeing as my last car was a chevy malibu I'm not so used to all these cool features in a car yet! (And I've almost had it a year!) It is definitely the switch then. I was not looking forward to taking it in for warranty repair again!

Thank you very much.

Hey, MitchMZ, my switch is starting to act weird, too. The thing is, though, it's totally intermittent -- sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't (and no, my switch is not stuck in the middle). I'm going to wait until it stops working completely before going in so that I can avoid the dreaded "there's nothing wrong with this" diagnosis that is common with electronics with intermittent issues. FYI - I'm also a 2006 AT.

I really love the tilt-down feature, too, as the TL has crazy blind spots, and I'm not about to curb my rims and/or run over kids. I use the tilt-down feature ALL THE TIME when parking. I'm a big fan of turning your whole body around when driving in reverse, but I definitely use the tilt-down as an assist.

I thought mine was broken but now that I know that the switch has to be on either side, I realize that it's not broken. You guys are talking about the switch you use when adjusting your sideview mirrors right?

Tilt down mirrors are great. I wish there was another switch position that would tilt BOTH mirrors down simultaneously in Reverse.

Incidentally, my driver's side mirror now creaks when tilting or un-tilting itself, sounding like a door in an old deserted house. Guess I take it in to the dealer. Anyone out there know what might cause this?

I'm experiencing this exact same problem with my 06 AT. Sometimes after putting the car in reverse, it would take a few secs before it tilts down and then about one-two secs later it would go right back to it's default position while I'm still in reverse. (and sometimes it would even go back down again and come up...lol) Like someone was saying, I use this feature all the time...it's a very good feature to have! I could park my car much easier than I did my old 98 Integra b/c of that feature. If I could only figure out when it doesn't want to work so I can take it to the dealer.
