'05 TL mileage storage and 105k maintenance

The instrument cluster on TL was swapped with an 06 cluster by the previous owner. Is the actual mileage stored in the computer or the cluster? will I just have to wait for a breakdown to know that I'm at 105k+ miles?

the mileage is stored on cluster.

the swapped cluster will display something else than your true mileage.

if you wait till a break down at 105k miles, then you're too late.
serious engine damage can occur from the timing belt if it snaps.

you'll need to hound previous owner for correct mileage...
or change out Timing belt and water pump early.

Take a look at the serpentine belt, does it look warn?

you can get a peek at the timing belt if you remove the passenger front wheel and look from below behind the crank pulley... not a great look...

Maybe you could try contacting local acura dealerships in the area the car originated and see if they have a record of the service history under the VIN.

Otherwise, do the 105k service... the amount of money ($700-$1400) for the TB Change and Water pump is well worth it to preserve your car

BC2G had a great suggestion of seeing if Acura had any records of your car via VIN!

I definetly wouldnt chance it tho...
an '05 will have over 100k miles for sure.

Even if it's not 105K...you're supposed to address after 7 years.
I'd be curious why the cluster was changed...maybe the motor was too? in which case, I'd HOPE they did the belt too...check VIN on engine and see if it matches your dash.

Thanks. Hadn't thought of that.

You will need two camshaft seals and a crankshaft seal and serpentine belt + honda coolant

I was pretty sure the overall thought was that the camshaft seals would likely not need changing. Hope so, I didn't change mine!
