05 TL Major Service - Switching from Synthetic Blend to Advanced Full Synthetic Oil?

I have an 05 TL with 213,000 miles

If had a TLX I would most definitely use all OEM parts.

I've been using Pennzoil Synthetic Blend High Mileage
Pennzoil High Mileage 5 qt. 5W-20 550045203 - The Home Depot

I am contemplating Mobil 1 Advanced Full Synthetic High Mileage
Mobil 1 High Mileage Full Synthetic Motor Oil 5W-20, 5 Quart - Walmart.com

Will Mobil one expose leaks that were not showing or has the synthetic blend already done this? I'm a concerned about the rear main seal or anything else starting to show its ugly head, but on the other hand if they are not already leaking I want the Mobile one to get all around the seals and lube them...This is the dilemma, as the other seals on my TL when I was replacing them were all dry and hard.

I just did a major service on my TL, and performed the following:

-Replaced both cylinder head gaskets, replaced cylinder head bolt washers and cleaned both cylinder head covers inside and out
-Replaced all spark plug seals and the spark plugs
-Valve adjustment, loosened all exhaust valves, tightened 4/6 intake valves
-Cleaned all 6 fuel injectors and replaced their filter screens and cleaned both fuel rails
-Replaced front and rear camshaft thrust cover o-rings, OEM
-Replaced both PCV valve o-rings, OEM
-Replaced air intake filter and cabin filter
-Replaced neutral safety switch
-Replaced 3rd and 4th pressure switch
-Flushed power steering fluid and refilled with OEM
-Cleaned Intake manifold
-Replaced Upper and Lower intake manifold gasket
-Cleaned throttle body and replaced its gasket
-Cleaned EGR Valve and replaced its gasket
-Installed new Diehard AGM battery
-Installed new Trico Ice wiper blades

What I used to clean:
Amazon.com: Gumout 800002231 Carb and Choke Cleaner, 14 oz. : Automotive Amazon.com: Gumout 800002231 Carb and Choke Cleaner, 14 oz. : Automotive
Purple Power Degreaser, 1 Gallon - Walmart.com

This is how I cleaned the fuel injectors:

This is how I replaced the filters:

The replacement filter I used (I reused the stock o-rings and relubed them with engine oil):

Amazon.com: UREMCO 4-6 Fuel Injector Seal Kit, 1 Pack : Automotive Amazon.com: UREMCO 4-6 Fuel Injector Seal Kit, 1 Pack : Automotive

I was getting 14-15 mpg per the MID. I am hoping this worked as putting bottles of STP fuel cleaner in my gas tank did little to nothing.

did you reseal the oil pump? THat's a common leaking point for the J-series engine.

Why did you do the headgasket? Looks like you got a lot of work done! Hows she driving?

Thanks,

I didn't take apart the timing belt so I didn't get to the oil pump seal.

The head gaskets were leaking. The car is running like butter. I'm hoping my fuel economy issue has also been resolved. Time will tell...

How did you do head gaskets without taking the timing apart? By any chance do you mean valve cover gaskets?

Use whatever, change on time, it will be fine. You can use regular, blend, synth, or even mix them together, and it won't hurt the car. I like to use penz plat or mobil1 and I change it every 5k. Could do much more but oil is cheap. Also get a decent oil filter.

356K miles on NAPA 5W-20 synthetic (which is really Valvoline SynPower) since 7K miles. Sometimes I'll use Mobil 1 when I can get it on sale at Costco. Either a WIX Platinum or Mobil1 filter at each change using the M-104A filter, the wider one for the 2003 TL with more internal filtering area. Changed the rear main seal and O-Ring recently during my latest clutch and flywheel replacement. Can STILL do 0-60 in under 6 seconds!

Where do you buy your OEM parts?

OEM TOTAL $98.50
Shopping Cart | Acura Parts Now

Fel-Pro Total: $30.69
Amazon.com: FEL-PRO VS 50607 R Valve Cover Gasket Set : Automotive Amazon.com: FEL-PRO VS 50607 R Valve Cover Gasket Set : Automotive

Total savings over OEM: $67.81

With that $67.81 saved, I was able to get a new neutral safety switch (old one was slipping out of drive to neutral when driving):

The trick is to not replace the washers since they never leak anyways.

mine were hard, don't remember if it was leaking

But I do agree, OEM is better...but not the price of it.

No worries, it's always easier to do the job second time since you had previous practice :P

Same thing.... the 12030-RYE-A01 is the combined set of 3 spark plug seals, 5 washer covers and cylinder head cover gasket. You need to buy 2 of them.

I always bought part in bulk, I bought all the seal back in 2018 before all the pricing increase lol I bought 8 set in total.
E.G I paid for a set OEM front upper control arm for $56 EA, OEM lower ball joint for $45 EA, LCA bushing for $25 each.

@sockr1 and @04WDPSeDaN can vouch how much spare parts I stocked at the house lmao. Even my local dealer Master Tech jokingly said I stock more part than their dealer.

I just changed oil and filled it with

Mobil 1 High Mileage 5W-20 Full Synthetic Motor Oil, 5 Quart

High Mileage 5W-20 Full Synthetic Motor Oil, 5 Quart 120768: Advance Auto Parts

and

Mobil 1 Mobil1 Premium Oil Filter

Mobil1 Premium Oil Filter M1-110A: Advance Auto Parts

If my rear main seal is filled with gunk which is preventing it from leaking and Mobil one cleans it out and it starts leaking.........

rockauto.com. I have the Mevotech LCA compliance bushings for 3 years now, and they're still just fine. https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...sn=364&jsn=364
My original ones were cracked at 11K miles and the dealer replaced the lower control arms under warranty.
