'05 TL 6 M/T Lube

Hey guys!
My first post at a new forum!
I am the second owner (first owner a Blue Angel pilot!!) of a 2005 TL 6spd.
At times it is stiff or "chinky" to fully engage third gear. It sometimes feels the same in fourth, but that is very seldom.
An old buddy at the Acura dealer tells me Corvette manual trans oil is the secret.
Anyone know what this oil is or a better alternative?

BTW, my TL is deep green with camel interior and will soon have 18x8.5 Enkei Raijin wheels with Bridgestone RE970AS tires. Currently 77k miles, but I pile them on!

^ Wassup dude

http://www.gmpartsgiant.com/parts/gm...-12377916.html

This place has good pricing. The shipped price for 3 qts was on the lower end of my search for this stuff. About $42 something to Texas.

GM P/N is 12377916

There are 2 forms of the GM synchromesh

One with friction modifyer and one without. Both are great.

i did some expereiments with these oils on my cammed K24/20 rsx

-amsoil
-gm synchromesh w/modifyer
-gm synchromesh w/o modifyer
-penzoil syncromesh
-honda mtf
-mobil one 15-50 fully synthetic

my fav was the penzoil. It felt the same as the gm synchromesh without modifyer (cause it probably is) but less of a hassle to get and cheaper.

the gm w/modifyer left the tranny feeling TOOOO slick. I kinda like feeling my gears slightly. I felt like my shifter was a hot samurai knife sliding through a bar of warm butter. lol

Be aware that a drain and fill takes 2.3 quarts (that's 2 quarts, 10 ounces rounded in U.S. measurements). Make sure you use a torque wrench. The fill plug takes 33 ft/lbs and the drain plug takes 29 ft/lbs. You don't need to remove the sight/check plug at all when doing this procedure. And you don't have to remove the battery, air filter box, or anything else. Just use the proper tools with extensions and a swivel and you'll be good to go.

Oh, and the fill plug is a female fitting for a 3/8" extension.

This is not the same part # as the stuff most of us have been using. The scryncromesh friction moddified fluid part looks right, but the part number of the GM stuff everyone I know of is running is 88900399. It just seems strange for GM to change the part # again, since it was changed not too long ago.

for clarification purposes, the part number posted in picture is the Canadian p/n. It is exactly the same stuff

And in case it's not obvious, please do yourself the favor of making sure you can loosen the fill plug BEFORE you drain the MTF.
