Question '04 TL noise

I have a "popping" noise that seems to be coming from the driver's side front. This is on an '04 TL A/T with 34K miles. I happens more often when making a 90 deg. right turn, after a full stop. It has happened a few times on left turns. The noise lasts only a few seconds. I have had it to the dealer and they thought it might be a brake pad "walking" and they did work on the brakes, but the noise came right back. I happened to mention the noise to a Honda tech and he suggested that it might be a ball-joint making the noise. Anyone have this same situation? I am taking the car back in this coming week. Thanks!

Sounds like it is coming from the ball joints.

My guess <g>

If it happens only when turning, I would have them look at the CV joints. I would HOPE that's not the issue because I would expect the CV Joints to last much longer.

I had the same problem. I took it to the dealership and the re-torqued my axle bolts on both sides.

Front end noise replies

Thanks everybody! I am taking it in to the dealer today. Let's see what they come up with! They are good people but, of course, the noise only happens when I drive, so it is hard for them to determine where it is coming from!!

Hello everyone. I'm having the same noise as well but it's also sounds when i accelerate slowly from a stop. Could this be the same problem as with the thread starter? (ball joints?)

My latest update. My dealer's service department thought they had found the problem. They said it was the "yaw rate sensor" in the VSA system. They said I had had a spike from the battery (which they determined was defective. They "relearned" the sensor and replaced the battery. The noise was gone until the next day!!!
The noise happens during the first drive of the day or after the car has set for approx. 4 hours or more. It is louder on right turns. I thought it was the Traction Control System, because the day after the above service, I noticed the noise when there was snow on the ground and I was getting some wheel spin on that wheel and the VSA light was flashing. I went around the block, came back to the same corner, turned the VSA system off and I got the same noise. I talked to a friend who is an Assistant Service Manager at a large Honda dealer and he said it was probably the TCS, which is part of the VSA, but would still be working, even though the VSA is off. OK, makes sense to me.
Next day, same turn, no snow, no wheelspin, SAME NOISE! No VSA flashing.
I have told the dealer about the responses above regarding th ball-joints and the axle bolts and CV joints. They have assured me that this is not the problem.
If anyone has any additional input, it would be appreciated!! Thanks!

Do you feel a vibration at all in the steering wheel when you hear this noise? When the CV joints went bad on my 1986 Legend, I got both a loud clicking noise and a vibration through the wheel.

No, I am not getting any vibration at all. I only get the noise in the middle of the turn. As soon as I straighten out, the sound is gone. It is the weirdest thing. It is supposed to get above 50 deg. here in Indy today, maybe that will make the noise disappear until next winter! Ha Ha!

Thanks for your input.
