'04 TL engine smoke

Hello all....a couple of weeks ago I started smelling a faint oil odor coming through my a/c vents. This has gradually progressed to some light l smoke curling out from under the passenger's side hood. I can see where oil is dripping onto the exhaust near the firewall but can't see the source. I do not have access to a lift. Any ideas on possibilities for the source? Valve cover possibly?

Thanks in advance,

Greg

sounds like it could be the power steering hose. I don't know if your year was involved in the recall, but near the end of 2012 my 2008 base TL had a recall for a power steering hose that could possibly deteriorate and slowly leak power steering fluid onto the hot exhaust and smoke up.

In some cases it would catch on fire. Someone posted a youtube video on here of a 2007-2008 TL Type-S that was on his way to the dealership and just as he was pulling into the dealership car lot his whole front end caught on fire and people working a the Lexus dealership next door recorded the whole thing.

It was not a pretty sight, but they thought it was pretty funny.

After I got my vehicle back from the recall I opened the hood to see what they had done and they changed the power steering hose located by the passenger side firewall. They also wrapped it in some type of heat shield.

Thanks for the info...that may very well be it. I checked Acura's website and my car is included in the recall with an open status. I'll be calling my shop tomorrow!

Go to the Acura site and put in your VIN #. It will tell you if your car has any recalls listed.

Get em to fix your wiper motor too while you're there, it sucks when they stop working in the middle of a storm.
