To replace the engine hood dampers do I also need to buy "ball studs"?

I believe you can google search it but its best with 2 people job. I have to do the same for mine, but as far as the "ball studs" thing I wouldnt. Unless they somehow broke off the hood then they need replacing.
I would just change the Lift support/hood dampers/hood struts. I plan to buy a pair through O'Reilly autoparts. They sell the Stabilus brand who I believe is the same brand that manufactured the OEM ones.

FYI, it's a really easy task, too: a five-minute job max, for replacing BOTH struts!
Some people have just used a piece of wood to prop the hood up while changing the struts. My teen son made sure the hood stayed up when I replaced my hood struts.

so I am sure anyone can find something strong enough to keep it propped up or just ask for a second pair of hands to help. Well, lets see how it goes when I get them in.
just get someone to hold the hood while you replace one strut at a time. much safer and easier.

Well since I just ordered them around 7pm tonight, its like 9pm Central time, and stated it would need a day to process the transaction, Fri. than another day or 2 to send it out and receive it.
Well seeing as all my friends don't want to drive to the place I am living at. And I dont want to go to them for such a simple change, also I do live with my older cousin but he is always out at work so trying to get a time where I'm home and he is can be problematic.
Even on weekends.
It "should" or "shouldnt" arrive?

you can probably even ask a neighbor to hold up the hood. you just need the small screwdriver like I used in the DIY thread. pop up the hood, have him/her hold it up while you replace the first (which should take you no longer than a few seconds - literally) shock.
once you get one replaced it will have enough strength to hold up the hood long enough for you to replace the other strut with or without someone propping up the hood. i dont recommend it, but its possible. one dead/dying strut and one good one is enough to hold the hood up, especially for a few seconds.
Just to add to the knowledge base, got new Stabilus SG326009 from Rockauto.
Used them in the 08 and took the old 08 OEM and moved them to the 04 which were actually wearing out. All was perfect, no issue. The only difference was one of the OEM is marked in red rather than blue and the head is rotated so the Acura technician does not have to do it. Once you mount the lower joint the head is easily rotated to the correct position with an adjustable wrench. Further, in one of the posts maybe not in this thread someone stated that it would be better to mount the strut direction opposite Acura. I disagree and believe it should be mounted the same as Acura. The weak element is the seals in the charged end and the lower the temperature variation the easier life the seal will have. Although it may be marginal reversing the strut will put the gas charged portion more towards the center of the engine compartment and thus increase the temperature variation that is experienced by the struts.

Echo the no on ball studs. Also, I was able to do it by myself by tying a rope witn an adjustable slip knot to something overhead and tying the other end to the hood latch loop.
