Hi everyone and anyone who can help. I bought an 04 acura tl with 187000 miles on it 2 days ago. When I test drive the car everything was fine. Once the car was at my house I noticed there was a large delay time when going from park to drive or reverse. It would also rather violently engage after 4 to 5 seconds. The next morning I went to the dmv to register the car. When I got home and was ready to drive I turned the key and had a dead battery. After replacing the battery and starting the car. It went from park to drive and reverse very smoothly with no issues. I then drive the car around and put almost 40 miles on it before returning home. Later that night eager to show off my new ride, I took a friend out. I started the and put it in reverse (which engaged fine) and the car did not roll back even being on a slight incline with gravity towards the rear. I then gave it gas and the started backing up but felt like it was fighting itself to do so, almost like the brakes were hung up. It felt very rough. I then put the car back in park and tried reverse again and had the same issue. I put the car in neutral and noticed it would not roll and when gas was applied it actually began to move forward. I shut the car off and turned it on again and had the same issue. I decided to just back up put it in drive and go down the street. After parking at a nearby gas station. I got back in turned on the car and everything worked great. Very puzzled I then drove around some more and had no issues with the tranny going through the gears not slipping at all all shifts were firm and felt nice. I then went back home put the car in reverse and had the same problem again. I don't undertand what could be wrong. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

 

This generation TL has a notorious transmission issue. Sounds like yours may be defective as well. I'd check the transmission fluid and replace asap. also pressure switches.
