04 Rattle Racket...driving me nuts !!!

Hello Peeps,

Ok So I posted a question about aftermarket LCA's v/s OEM bushing etc.... Chose to go the OEM compliance bushing route, bought the special tool, was super easy to do without dismanteling the whole LCA.....did both side......hoping that all rattle will be gone.......

NOOOOOO rattle is still there......bushings were shot no question....rattle reduced......but still there....looked and looked but cannot seam to find the source of the rattle...

It is a specific metal on metal hit but i cannot for the love to god zero down on the culprit......

this is what I have done so far...raised the car took a shovel placed it under the tire for leverage and asked my son to bump the wheel as i inspected underneath the bushings etc for movement.....

Both upper and lower ball joints look tight
All control arm bushings are tight
Sway bar rubber is tight
no visible leaks from the suspension struts....
Upper control arm bushings tight...

infact when he bumped the wheel the entire car would move but no movement for any of the usual suspects....what am I missing here....
Could it be the suspension bearings in the upper hatch/mount.....
I am at 175K miles 6MT...... the rattle is driving me crazy......need guidance of what else to check and diagnose......

please guide me as to what else to check and how.....I want smooth suspension travel and not the rattle racket that happens now....

Sandan....

Inspect the struts, especially the top hats.

I second this! This was exactly where my rattle was coming. The top hats were good, but the strut bushings were shot. $10 bucks for new ones and a little time to get them done and rattle completely gone.

Heavy rattle or light?
if light? Check the heat shields, even the power steering shield.

I had a rattling not long ago. I put a large hose clamp around the heat shield covering the third catalytic converter under the car and it is now gone. No more rattles.
