And i dont mean to insult your intelegence but i dont think you know more than the shop who fixed my wheels which are specialist in only repairing wheels for the last 30 yrs. Wheel Doctor USA.
Hopefully some one in the forum will prove one of us wrong. I still say you now have a 45mm offset.

I'm gonna try to be a mediator here...

Michael is correct on the whole offset theory... when you shave 5mm from a 40mm offset wheel... you're basically increasing the distance between the center line of the wheel to the wheel mounting surface... which gives you 40-(-5)=45... So what Slammed did is essentially pushed the wheel into the car... If Slammed would of made the wheel 35mm... he would have had MORE rubbing 'cause he would have essentially Pushed the wheel OUT of the car...

go to http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp .... and play with the numbers...

Hope I was able to clear things out...

don't post here much...but still know about offset...and what rodney said is correct....SIMPLY put...the lower your offset the more your wheel sticks out from the car...the higher the offset the less it sticks out

for example...my 02 accord has a 42mm offset and i rub in the rear because the required offset is 45 (granted i do not have the fenders rolled...in which case i wouldn't need 45..42 would work fine)
