Austin, are these phone pics?!?! After spending so much money on lenses and talking about bodies, I'd expect much more clear and less blurry pictures! I know I only have sh*tty lenses but do you want to borrow my $15 tripod next time you want to take low light shots?
Other than that, I do dig the pictures though...cool location! Motel 6 has really upgraded their entrance!

Or you already have one...?

Yah, what you need really depends on what you're trying to do. If you just want to mount a P&S for night shots you can go cheap. If you want to mount a SLR with large telephoto lenses, you're going to need something better. Once you get past $100-150 you mostly start buying weight capacity, smoothness of adjustment, and the the head not moving when you tighten in. Look into amvona/dyantran on ebay for some pretty reasonable quality stuff cheap.

This one looks nice. Highly rated and good price. Made of aluminum too so it's light You can get the longer legs if you wish for slightly more.
And a guy has a pic of his 5D II and 70-200mm L lens so I'd say it's sturdy enough.
Personally, I prefer ball head mounts because they're very easy to adjust and fast.

Thanks guys. I've never purchased a tripod, so I really don't know what I'm getting in to. This is for my Canon T4i.

Like he said either will work if you don't plan on doing panos. I have a ball head with pano, so I'm partial to having it. The one nice thing about it other than panos is there is a notch in the ball mount that allows you to flip your camera to portrait mode. If you're in portrait mode you're really limited in aiming your camera without picking up the tripod. Having the pano allows you more adjustment without moving anything. One other thing to get- order a wired camera release with your tripod. It allows you to trigger it with touching and and introducing any sway. I use it most of the time I'm on a tripod. Not strictly necessary, but you should be able to get one for like $5. Its really pretty shocking the quality difference when you use a tripod in low light. Get to keep your camera on ISO 100 and get nice crisp blur and noise free photos. Plus you can get some pretty awesome effect with long shutter speeds. Trailing shutter flash is always fun.
