Having some fun with Plastidip and paint.





I know there are a few people waiting on numbers. This weekend i will go through the thread and hand them out.

 

^Love the wheel color, goes very well with the color of your car. However, the yellow fogs and amber reflectors clash horribly...time to clear them out!

strangely enough, i really like the purple... you have me thinking i should have some fun with plasti dip and some paint. How did it go taking off the other plasti dip with the teal/blue/green lol

 

The lagoon blue was on my RDX wheels. As long as you lay the plastidip thick it will come off the way it should even after paint. I used 2 real heavy coats. For the parts of the wheel that lack plastidip it may be a little tougher to come off. So far from my experience i have not had any issues with the finish bonding to the original wheel surface. But if done right it could be a lot of fun to change wheel colors rather easily. Hope that helps anyone wanting to try it out.

 

Whoa.....maybe too much fun!

 

A helpful piece of advice when removing stubborn plasti dip, WD-40 works like a champ. Just spray it on and hose it off. My buddy did this to his stock Cobra wheels and it wouldn't come off easily. After a bunch of methods we ended up trying the WD-40 and it worked great.

HAHAHA...Yea most people on this forum prob won't like it. But i do. And plus when we have meets around here all the cars look the same. But not anymore!

 

what did you do to the wheels to make sure the plasit dip sticks well?

 

I power washed them with wheel cleaner. Then dried them with a microfiber towel.

Out of all the cars I have owned and modded. This one has given me the most grief.

Finishing the SC by-pass valve delete mod and can't wait to drive it.

Ordered the RDX brake covers, drive belt, charcoal cabin filter and a few other maintenance parts.

Thinking about going ahead and replacing the o-rings in the PS pump pretty soon.

Alignment guy really wants me to get camber kits so he can align car but I kind of like the neg. camber in the rear.

Summer is on the down slope and that just sucks.

 

another opportunity to not only whore out my car after a bath but also a reason to play with my new S3

one of these days my d40 will stop collecting dust and we'll have a proper photoshoot. my build thread could use an update..
