Trunk Liner Mod - Pics

So, I had yesterday and today off and decided to do a little project. I had wanted to do this for a while, but only now had the time. Overall I am pleased, but it could have looked alot better. The main problem that I had was, eventhough I taped off the area very well the spray paint I used bled. I went and got some touch up paint to cover the areas that bled, it looks good from far, but when you get up close to it you can see some imperfections. I am going to give myself an A for effort, trial and error that what its all about. I am sure I will purchase a new trunk liner in the future and learn from my mistakes.

area taped off..

newspaper layed down to protect the all other areas

materials I used

coat #1

after many coats and clearcoat applied

finished product

finished product #2

A for originality A- for execution. Wouldn't a primer coat prevent it from bleeding?

I took my spare tire and everything else and carpeted the area, made a carpeted hinged door. I bought a compressor, fix-a-flat and a tire repair kit. 40 pounds gone. But my sub and am weigh 60 pounds, so thats OK.

JD-TLS has hijacked a lot of threads including mine with some random pictures that made no sense. I am starting to wonde about you JD-TLS

Back on Topic-

Jesse, A for effort and anything like that can be fixed. Is the paint you got for that type of material? That might have been the problem and the clear isn't really needed on that. I will have to see it in person.

To the OP it looks good, but you can see overspray on the mat towards the outside where you didn't completely cover it.

As for JD-TLS, WTF dude?? Why are you jacking a thread with irrelevent pictures?

I really like the idea of painting the trunk tray... I don't know if I can justify buying all that stuff just to paint the "TL" in my trunk though... gotta budget in this economy.

I'd like to do the shaved door handle mod and I just saw the shaved shifter mod and am really liking that idea too.

Maybe I can borrow my neighbors paint and dremel for these mods...

Cool idea, not sure if I would do it though because it looks like it not only bled around the TL but I see overspray on the trunk liner outside the newspaper as well. Anyways kudos for trying something new

Golf, I just did this too. I didn't use spray paint-I just painted mine by hand.

Total cost for this mod was $5.15....not too bad.

I did the same thing with my all season floor mats. But instead of spraying, I used a paint pen. But the "TL" definitely looks hot painted.

Jesse, sorry to go off topic here but I have too.

HaHa....JD-TLS seems to go silent when things like this happen. I would think a guy with over 3000 thread posts in less than two years knows better than to post pictures like this in other peoples threads. I am surprised with the amount of threads I have seen him do this in, he has never been called out on this by the mods or anyone.

Guys you need to look at the thread I posted a while back....It is pictures of Erics car and my car in my garage....Mid way into it, JD-TLS shows up and says he is "Just doing a test" and shows a whole series of pictures of his older car. I never understood it but it seems to be a problem as the time goes on...

Here is the thread. I was like WTF??

No worries Jon, this is an issue that obviously needs to be looked at and put to a stop. I am on another forum where thread hijackers get the boot for a week whenever they hijack. Might be a little severe, but just some food for thought. One time is a pain in the ass, two times is really annoying and anything over three times in inexcusable, there is an etiquette that should be followed.
