ugh. aerocatch ftl
i've ordered the aerocatch latchs... but i dunno.. they're big.. and kind of stick out..
i havent installed them yet, im really contemplating what i should do.. i also ordered a set of Sparco silver hood pins with lanyards.... im gonna see which makes for a better install, and looks better before i start drilling
either way, they both use the same exact base stud... so i gotta find a good mounting point for the stud first, then see where it would it go through the hood, and which latch will look better...
either way, ive been driving MAD slow on the parkway... im really worried for some reason, even though ACCURATEin and MichealBenz never had a problem.. but they also have a slightly different hood from me..

i don't understand why people are worried about hood pins.
civics and such are not held down by.... can't remember the word right now, but when they lift their hood, they gotta put that latch to hold it up. our cars are different, we have that other thing that holds it up. it holds our hoods down plus our latches are much stronger than civics. those latches are made for civics and not for our cars. there shouldn't be any worries of our hoods flying off. as a previous accord owner, there are tons of accords with the same hoods and they're not having a problem at all. latches = for show (i guess) on newer cars. period

Well, this CF hood utilizes the OEM latch.. but let me be more detailed on my setup
1) I had to dremmel a hole in between the latch.. (check page 2) in order for the latch to actually release.
2) when the bump stops are set up right, the hood jiggles a little bit when latched... SO... i needed to raise the bump stops a little. now the hood is solid, but it sits about 2-3mm HIGHER then it should, this will allow for air to enter through the sides of the hood. and as we all know, air is the reason hoods fly off soo violently
3) I did NOT hook up the OEM dampers to this hood yet. I think they are too strong, and VIS recommended i dont use them. Also, if there force is too strong... they can counteract as a force that LIFTS the hood up, and puts upward pressure on it....
The biggest reason peoples hoods "fly off" is usually the latch seperates from the hood. Doesnt matter if you are a civic, TL, or 911 GT3... the latch breaks, the hood flies off
You would think, well you run the same risk with the OEM hood then... NO... because the oem hood is a steel latch, on a steel hood. these are steel latchs, embedded in fiberglass... granted that fiber glass is strong, it is still not as strong as steel
i really, really, really dont want to install hood pins. and i will probably NEVER EVEr had a problem, but i cant always being driving around worried that the hood will fly off
Hell, my brother in law had a GTI (20+ psi) with a half titanium/ half CF hood (cost $2k) and with the sparco hood pins, it still ripped off the car when he was doing 100+ mph... smashed the windshield, the roof, and did in excess of $6k in damage...
I am mostly doing this for peace of mind.... i doubt the hood will fail, but god forbid it ever does. those $40 pins will act as a second and third saftey "latch"
my
and yes, you all can on.... but i will be installing something.. pins or latchs, not sure yet
