Sunflowers

So the highway was closed due to an accident the other morning and my girlfriend and I happened to see each other at the gas station. We decided to take the back roads into work and while driving through the countryside, we saw a field of sunflowers that were beginning to bloom. We came back after work with a camera she had at work and got these shots:

Her Honda:

While we were snapping photos, a worker from the nursery across the street stopped over to tell us we should ride up the road further to see another field that had been planted earlier and was in full bloom. We hopped in the cars and headed up the road. We had not traveled this particular road that morning and had not seen it.

This field was huge and was indeed in full bloom. There were people stopped all along the road admiring it and one guy had his DSLR on a tripod in the bed of his pickup snapping away!

It was beautiful, but we realized that the sun was going down and the light was not right. We went back the next morning to an absolutely spectacular sight:

I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Compressing them for the website killed the resolution. I'm using the closeup shot of the 2 big flower heads for my wallpaper and it is quite stunning---you can even see the dew drops on the petals. I'm impressed that macro mode on my P&S camera did so well. No Photoshop, though!

Nice shots!
Now that IS funny!

Yeah, that's my girlfriend's favorite, too. She actually framed the shot and told me to get it. That little Morning Glory is dwarfed by the others!

In the past week, I have found about 6 separate fields in my immediate area. Unfortunately, none of them provide the opportunity to get great shots more than this one. I guess I found the best one and shared it with you all! Only the best for AZ!

Awesome shots!! Great screenery really helps make the cars stand out as well. The sunflowers remind me of Southern Spain. We lived near a small fishing/farming town. You drive the country side of vineyards, sunflowers and strawberries (where they picked them for you).

If you want to keep some pics in high resolution and also share them here. Just copy the pic first and use the copy to resize for here. That way you don't mess with the original pic.

Thanks for sharing......
