right now, i can get a brand new Rebel 300D body (6.3mp) with the 18-55mm lense, for $200.... i know its the old one, and they are up to XTi (10.1)

but $200, good deal right?? i would still need to buy the 75-300mm lense, a tripod and abattery charger.. this camera is brand new, but the charger was missing... been left around at my job for like a year and a half, and its clearance to $200... tempting
Do it, you dont need a 75-300mm. You need the 18-55mm lens which will run you between 70 used and 120 brand new. A heavy duty tripod to support the weight of the camera and thats it. You dont need a 10.1 megapixel camera unless youre gonna make posters or something. You can go to best buy and get replacement parts or go here to shop for lenses and things.. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/

I just got my Sony Alpha A100 (my first DSLR) a few days ago, so I had no idea what I was doing when I took these pics. I did not use any tripods for these pics but did have the Image Stabilizer turned on. Pics are unedited.

Here goes...

I was contemplating using raw image files for shots I take with my D80. Have you rimz (not necessarily these images you took, but previous ones)?

By the way Allon, Nikon D80 plus VR 18-200mm equals straight up sex bro!

But not "cheap" sex...

i ALWAYS shoot in RAW format...the second batch of photos i posted (my TL plus my wife's Xterra) were all RAW photos as shot...plus in my flickr photostream, all the Patron and Absinth shots are RAW with NO POST-PROCESSING...our camera (D80) also has the option to shoot in RAW+Fine, but don't bother...stick with RAW everytime...

and yeah, just like the NBP/WDP war, there's also a Nikon/Canon one...though a slight difference between the two, Nikon > Canon...but to add something about each: i think (some of) Canon's lenses outperform Nikon's, but Nikon makes a better camera overall with some top-notch lenses...

i use a Nikon D80 DSLR camera...with an 18-55mm Nikon lens and also a 70-210mm Nikon lens...also have a circular polarizer filter for each lens and a 4x neutral density filter for each lens...got the filters AFTER i took those pics, though...can't wait till nice weather returns for some new shots...

if you guys want to see really nice DSLR photos you should check out all the Acurazine photo contests hidden away in the Camera & photography sub-section of Ramblings. There's also lots of threads of various equipment. Here's a link.

You know, all of these posts are great, but the end result is really independent of the brand, model or resolution of the camera.

What makes a photo is the eye behind the eye piece.

I'm a Canon whore myself but you can generate most of these photos with a point and shoot camera.

If were me, I would always go for the latest model. There are always technical advancements that make the newer models better than the old.

The other aspect of photography especially with DSLR's is that the lenses are the key (as korrupted pointed out). Bodies come and go and degrade in price very quickly. Lenses either hold their value or sometimes gain value. I've got a white lens that cost me 3400.00 5 years ago and it's selling for 3800.00 today.

For beginner DSLR, it the body doesn't make a large a difference as your lens will. I'd recommend either a XT, XTi or even picking up a used 20D or 30D depending on your price range and what your goals are with it. I have upgraded from my XT to a 40D but here is a picture taken with my XT and a 24-70 L series lens which cost more than my 40D body.

The reason I chose this picture to share was because its untouched.
