Headlights are easy; for you they'd be beyond easy. My lights (heads and tails) are the only things I have that are 100% unique. Variations on a theme, yes, but the only examples of those variations that I'm aware of. Given your track record, I'm sure your variation will be quite stellar.

The mod looks very aesthetically pleasing. Only thing I would mention is to leave less space up top when the iPhone is in, if you know what I mean.

This mod reminds me of a similar one I saw on vw mkv forum. Only difference was he utilized the oem iPod dock as a base. Perhaps with the use of that, you could free up a cup holder? Hah

 

so if i understand correctly, you use one dock when you want to use isimple, and another when you want to view videos?

haha, i saved AZ! if it were a simple ipod then yes it would be easy to just use one cup holder and just plug it in, but this is a phone and i wanted to have it in that position, this way i could have full control at my finger tips.

that is correct isimple has no video out

 

look at the pic where its not plugged in, thats just enough room on top and bottom to grab it with two fingers and flip it for video playback or removing it. couldn't really get away from that.

i had another design where i had the dock connectors on a hinge and i would just plug the phone in and swing in down into place. but i chose this route, maybe next dock

well the 12"x12" aluminum sheet was $8 the resin $9 the fiberglass cloth $7 i have a ton left of each. a few tiny nuts and bolts like $5 the CF trim piece i had laying around, and the cables. it wasn't that easy to fab, but it was a good challenge.

Very impressive, absolutely love it. If I had an iPhone I would be looking into doing this/having this done for my TSX. I like to drink my morning coffee in there but for something this slick and custom I could easily live without cupholders.

Speaking of morning coffee, this morning my girlfriend spilled MORE THAN HALF HER COFFEE ALL OVER ME AND MY CONSOLE! FML! In other words, if I had this mod, my leg and ass wouldn't be burnt right now.

 

Hey man, looks like I just may make my ccustom holder too. .I was driving around with my gf and showing her the 2 options I had for mounting my iPhone.. she really really wants me to make the custom one.. dogh.. lol .. so look like I may just do it lol .. so now that it looks like im gonna do it.. quick question.. how did you make the "docking" part of it? how did you get the plug to stay? was it with that crazy bracket that is squeezing the plug?

Oh and y did you have to make 2 of them?

I would love to do this as well, but since my car is my office with a cup of coffee in one holder and two cell phones and a remote in the other, I have no other room.. You do unreal work Jamie! i let this thread drowned, before i got a chance to post pics of it installed. here are some pics which you guys probably already seen.

 

oh and heres a video, in case some of you missed it. it shows some of the dock in action. this is probably my favorite mod i use it every time i get in the car. the sound through it is awesome when playing mp3 audio or any videos as well. i can watch any online video on the screens as well as any youtube video. bluetooth works perfectly, calls coming in mute the sound. internet access is just fingertips away.
