Painted Emblem on TL-S

Well I finally got it finished, it is hard to see the color match because the angles but here it is. And I think I know what is next... that crome above the tag I think will look good painted. That will be the real test on color

Looks really good. I would say your color is the best color for this mod. This wouldn't work on WDP or anything else, I don't think.

By the way, I like the way the chrome strip looks above the license plate (the way you have it now), but that's just me. I'm sure it'll still look great when you paint it.

One thing to think about, a grill is a lot more expensive if I mess it up :blindfold preping it

I was wondering when someone would ask... We take the acual chrome plastic piece off and sand blast it just enough to take all the shinnyness off BUT you do not want to blow off the chrome. You want to be able to feel the texture with your fingers, not smooth at all. Also make sure you get all the edges, thats where the peeling usually begins. I had an extra emblem laying around so I practiced on it, seeing how close I should hold my gun (sand blaster) without blowing off all the chrome. Every machine is different as far as how far to hold away. As for sanding them (by hand)... you can do that BUT it was very hard to get that textured feel to it which is what the base coat needs to stick good, plus getting those hard to get edges. (where peeling begins) I found it to be a lot better with a sand blaster. As for painting it, at this point you can paint it however you want but my painter used 2 base coats, 2 color, and 2 clear coats. Then baked it for 1 hour. (LOL not in a oven) I hope this might help!

^^ Great Explanation. For those of you who are interested in painting your front grille, my car will be in the body shop tomorrow to have a headlight assembly replaced and while they are at it I want them to paint my grille body color (except for the "A" which I want left chrome) They were supposed to do this already when it was in the shop from my accident but when I went to pick it up it wasn't painted. Pissed me off, but I couldn't wait any longer 3 weeks without my car was long enough. If they agree to get it done I'll post pics here

there is double stick tape on it... take fishing line around the emblem... on the center of the emblem there are 2 studs that just allighn the emblem... so you won't be able to take the fishing line ALL the way through it but you can circle around it to unstuck it... then you should be able to pull it straight off. Good luck

you are still going to have some tape, and glue on the badge and on the car, fishing line just helps a lot to get it off chrome black I think will look good!

yeah it leaves a nasty adhesive I used something called "oops" it detiriotated the adhesive so you can just carefully remove it, very tedious since I don't want to create a mark on my nbp
