Out with the old, in with the new: From 5AT NBP Type-S to 6MT KBP Type-S!

As bittersweet as it is, I've decided to part ways with my 2007 5AT NBP type-s. It had 149,000 miles on it and I've owned it for about a year and a half since February 2012. It was a beautiful, trouble-free car that I'm going to miss dearly. Here's some pictures for anyone that never saw it before:

All good things come to an end. You're all probably wondering why I decided to get rid of it.

A pictures says a thousand words.

When I stumbled on a 2007 KBP type-s 6MT in immaculate condition for a great price, I just couldn't pass it up. I'm in northeast Ohio so this was a bit of an irrational decision for me. I had to fly from Ohio-->Atlanta-->Kansas and make a 14 hour drive home to get the car. Not only that but I had just put over $5,000 into my NBP type-s less than a month ago when I lowered the car, got the entire front end repainted, and purchased the aspec kit.

Do I have any regrets? Heck no! I purchased a car with 50,000 miles less than my other car (odometer on my KBP is sitting at 100,000, was 99,000 before my 1,000 mile car ride home ), a more favorable color in KBP, and last but definitely not least a 6 speed manual! This things is loads more fun to drive than my 5AT type-s and is way faster. I actually raced my 5AT (modded) with my 6MT (bone stock) with VSA off for both and it wasn't even close. 6MT pulls on it like crazy.

Here's some pictures I took on my phone. I apologize, both cars are dirty as we just had a storm pass by.

So what are my plans?

I've already done a few mods to my KBP. I started off with the slave cylinder check valve delete and just today swapped over to GM Syncromesh friction modified transmission fluid. I also swapped off my AEM V2 CAI and RV6 V3 Jpipe to my KBP type-s. To be entirely honest, I felt like a lost a bit of low end torque after swapping over the CAI. It sounds so mean though, so I will hold off on getting rid of it until I fabricate a custom 4" CAI when I do some head work on the car.

In the very near future, I will be swapping over my door visors, XXR 530s, Koni Yellow Shocks + HR Sport Springs, and a few other aesthetic mods from my NBP type-s as I prepare to sell it. It's going to be a great car for its future owner.

Well that's all for today folks, stop back in sometime soon as I will be getting a photo shoot done with both of my TLs since my NBP type-s never had the chance to get a photo shoot.

Lol I will have to look at his threads, is it really that similar or are you just making fun of me for my restlessness and switching of cars so soon? . Ironically, he was a huge asset to this purchase as he helped me out a on a few key things.

JJH--No making fun of! I think James "JTS97Z28" is his name, has sold/bought a few TL's and has experience. That was the "joke" per say.

Indeed it is, I'm going to do an interior overhaul with some custom carbon fiber wrapping and probably upgrade(is it an upgrade?) to a CT short shifter.

I really really really dig the front end of this KBP. I like the grille and the yellow fogs. I'm assuming that is either dipped/CF wrapped and the Lamin-x yellow fog overlays.

Yeah, James gave me a hand in my purchasing decision. He is the last person that you want to talk to when you're on the edge of making a financially unwise decision .

It seriously is so bittersweet parting ways with the NBP. Side by side, I think the NBP looks better in appearance. Maybe it's because I was so meticulous with the cars paint that it just looks like a pool of black beauty that I want to jump into or maybe it's because the car is lowered and has the aspec kit, but I think that when clean NBP is still the best looking color for the type-s. Who am I kidding though, they all look great! I saw a MRP type-s that was on stock waffles with a slight drop and spacers and what looked to be 20% tint all around and it about made me snap my neck. That color really, really flows well with the body lines of the type-s and just the overall appearance.

Do you guys have any suggestions on mods that I should do? As far as I know, I will be the first KBP owner to have the XXR 530s so I'm pretty excited to see what that looks like.

I was waiting for you to post some pics. Looks awesome!! The reason he said its just like me is because I'm probably one of the only other members who have posted pictures of having two Type S's at the same time lol. About time someone else did that haha. I think you will find selling the Type S is pretty easy. The ones I have sold private party have all gone quickly and to the first person to come see them.
Kind of funny you raced the two cars lol. When I recently had my 08 5at and 07 6mt together at the same time I wanted to run them both, but my best friend the only one I would trust with one of my cars recently moved out of state so never got a chance to. Just like you said though, the 6mt makes it almost feel like an entirely different car. I loved driving my 08 5at, but from a performance standpoint, it was no comparison.
Congrats on the purchase, sounds like you have no regrets.

James

You should definitely swap over your black interior assuming it is the two tone type-s interior. Much easier to maintain!

That is Glenn's car "SICK TLS" and his grill is wrapped in 3m di-noc. Fogs have yellow tint but I'm not sure if it's lamin-x

Thanks, that's whose I thought it was. His car looks great.

It is the two tone type-s ebony interior. I've thought about switching it over, but there are a few different things that i wouldn't want to mess with. Airbag modules, seat belts, headliner, etc.

If you can do PCDs or HFPCs, you can do a headliner and seats. It's all nuts bolts and wiring harnesses to unclip for the seats. Not too hard!

Headliner took me all of 2 hours to remove when I replaced a sunroof assembly. First time and I can't do PCDs or any major engine work!

What about seat belts and airbag modules? Airbag modules are synced to ECUs. I have no clue what it even takes to remove a seat belt... I've thought about doing it, I just know I will probably run into tons of problems doing so.

Had to check FB to make sure I wasn't missing anything I'm not very good at hitting people back in a timely fashion.

Made some good progress today on prepping my other car for sale. Swapped over my system (KnuKonceptz 4GA OFC Wiring, JL W6V3 10", JL XD600/1) to my new car and did a very clean job on the wiring in comparison to the audio installers that did it before.

Made it about 45% through my interior swap, and I've got to say that the black looks way better with KBP than the tan does. Before I had contemplated getting darker window tint but I think it looks okay now.

Sometime this week I'm going to tackle the front seats, airbag modules, seat belts, headliner, and sunroof cover.

Here's some pics:

I got a couple new toys too:

Ingalls Camber Kits from WhoIsMiked on the way too. Once I receive all my suspension components, I will do the swap of everything (koni shocks, HR Springs, XXR 530s, Ingalls Camber Kits, Moog Endlinks, and Progress Rear Sway bar).

Not sure what to expect with the Progress RSB but everyone talks about it like it's the bees knees so I'm hoping I feel what you guys feel!

No, I'm going to. I wanted to make sure there wasn't any sensors or anything that I was going to damage before I just ripped them out. I have to pull the rear seat/deck again this week anyways when I install my suspension. It looks as simple as unscrewing the bolts. On the side of the seat belt there is a message that says "Do Not Remove".

I see that you have the MDX IM spacer. Did you notice a shift in your powerband after installing it?

As far as I know, there are no sensors in regards to the rear seat belts, so it would be just be bolts involved. the sensors are just for the fronts.

with the MDX IM Spacer, yea, i noticed more power down in the lower and mid range rpms.

More new stuff came today. Round 2 with these Ingalls Rear Camber Kits as I had already installed them on my other tl-s. First time around with the Progress RSB. Heard great things about it. Also have Moog Endlinks on the way so I don't have to deal with the stock ones.

Made some nice strides today on the interior swap. I should be able to finish up everything pretty early tomorrow morning. So far, the only casualties are these white Honda clips that hold the rear of the seat on. Nasty little tuckers let me tell you...

Anyone know where I can these clips?

Another problem has revealed itself today. I was thrown SRS airbag lights on both of my cars today. Followed the proper precautions described in the service manual to mitigate this from happening but looks like something is messed up. I found a DIY to reset the SRS lights and was able to successfully do so, but they almost immediately came back on.

Anyone have any ideas?
