Got side-swiped by a Caravan.

I was sitting in traffic in the middle lane waiting for the light to change. Next thing I hear was tires screeching on wet asphault coming from behind on the left lane. I look in my side mirror and see a Caravan desperately trying to stop on the wet road, and to avoid rear-ending the car in front of him, he tries cutting into the center lane (where I was, about 2 car lengths up). He ends up clipping the right rear bumper of the car, and continues to skid between the two lanes RIGHT TOWARD MY CAR!

I tried to inch up and over to the right as I saw him coming in my mirror. I managed to get my right side tires just over the lane lines on the right. All traffic was stopped, so I couldn't really move over that much. All I could do was HOPE he didn't hit me. Then, after what seemed like an eternity, it happened...

He clipped my left rear quarter, and knocked my side mirror outward. There is noticeable damage around the rear wheel well, and my wheel took a pretty bad hit as well. The rear door is scratched, the side mirror lost some paint and the RJ side skirt got a stress crack in the paint.

No one was hurt... and thank GOD he had insurance, or I would have beat him to a pulp in the middle of the road.

Estimate comes in at just under $1,800.00 to repair everything including refinishing the wheel and refinishing the undamaged door. The car is already at the shop and a claim adjuster is on the way. I hope there won't be an issue with the other guy's insurance company. I'll find out in a day or so.

Here are some more pics.

Tell me about it.

He finally came to a stop about a half car length past my car on the left. If I didn't have the sense to move over that would have been the end of my entire left side.

oooooo... that really hurts to look at!! I'm sure everything will be restored to better than new.. so don't sweat it. As long as no "human" body damage... all else is fixable.

Glad to hear you're OK. Your TL is one of the finest in the nation. I don't know what it is, but it seems like 3G TL's are on some type hit list here lately. Makes me think twice about pulling mine out of the garage.
Keep your head up Bro' she'll be back badder than ever I'm sure!

Insurance adjuster came out to look at the car yesterday. They looked at it and left, without saying anything. Shop owner called them afterward and they said they would get back to them...

They still have not confirmed liability and has yet to approve a rental for me.

It's not my insurance. I'm dealing with the insurance of the guy that hit me. Ocean Harbor or some shit like that.

I put in 3 calls and left messages. Still awaiting a reply. Today I got a letter from them telling me that they are investigating the issue and have not admitted liability yet. They continued to say that I could have the car repaired under "my insurance" if I can't wait (LOL).

I'm going to wait until Monday until I decide what to do. Looks like I'll have to contact a lawyer.
