I think he's seriously considering selling it back to you. Knowing that the first thing you'd do is the list of things he wrote out as needing to be done.

Then he could buy it back again in 15 months for the same price as before, but in perfect shape.

It's actually a very wise strategy.

I'm not one to knock anyone but with all due respect and no disrespect to anyone, I've seen DMZ's TL and it's far from what I would consider super clean. Well maintained? Perhaps, but again, not to what I would consider maintained. That's why I said, it's apples to oranges of TL's. Here comes another member knocking my statements and calling BS.. (which I have zero reason to fabricate statements). The guy sold his TL for 15K, why is it hard to accept it? Tacobello wanted to buy my TL for 15K but I wasn't ready to sell and that was way before I invested more into my vehicle. There are clean 3rd gen's out there, but expect to pay the price. I'm not willing to sell my TL less than 15K and that's me. As J once said, have a price in mind where I'm willing to sell, if the price is not met, keep it. I doubt anyone can tell me that my TL isn't near show room condition and it would be unreasonable to ask for 15K+

You do have a rare gem as well, so you understand my point.

What grinds your gears, Gus?

Hey, a car is worth whatever someone is willing to pay...
if you're in a financial position to sit on it unless you get 15...do it!
If you ask some people if that's nuts...sure...it is...because it is nuts...
with that said, someone that always dreamt of that car with sc and perfect condition
will find 15k to be a bargain in comparison to some run of the mill hyundai elantra for more
money right now.

Ignorance grinds my gears

I think covid has done a number on most this year. There's been an absurd amount of childish behavior (mainly from the automotive community). I know you've said this MANY times before, but you're 100% correct with these Facebook groups. The ignorance is strong among narrow minded individuals who don't know any better. Numairh sells his TL for 15K and all of a sudden the price bashing idiots are silent. Here comes another member on this site to call BS "No way he sold for 15K!" FFS, why does it matter and what does he gain for lying about it?? Way too much negativity this year. The entire "enthusiast" scene has turned into complete shit this year.

Numairh isn't a liar...he doesn't really seem to give a fuck what people think.
I truly didn't even realize it was him they were talking about...
That car was gorgeous and he did GREAT work to it!

Yeah I honestly can kinda see both sides. I don't have super close first hand knowledge on member cars (aside from just basic thread/posts...) but definitely see where that other kid sold his for 15k AND how another person may not let got a more "base" TL for his stated price.....diff values to diff people.

Like...for some people, the value of keeping a car, after it is already maintained (maybe not cosmetically perfect) for many more miles is wroth more than what some ppl willing to pay...in that case...hey just keep it man. For others, they can let it go for a price lower than what others would think.

Also some people more affected by the "sunk cost fallacy"....where if you already spent so much $$/time on it...might as well keep it unless someone offers a great great price....which depending on the car...there may or may not be buyers at that price.

But yeah....definitely for these cars, if I do all the fixes and get it to 90% "perfect" it'll definitely fetch a decent price as depreciation I think is fairly flat and it is tastefully modded but not too crazy....still very daily-able but not as crazy say a fully bagged TL or boosted or "VIP'ed out...

Can't we all just be friends? :gheyhug:

I remember someone here on forum (speaking of price bashing) around March of this year, a member said used car price will take plunge $2k-$3k under where they should be because of COVID. Fast forward to Dec the used car market price has climbed several thousand of dollars compare to a year ago, some used car even gain more than $10k in value.

You are 100% correct. The used car market is strong. The truth of the matter is, a 6MT TL always sell for more vs the Automatic. We've all seen type-s trims sell way more than book value. Not every 3rd gen will be worth way more than book, but the right one(s) will. I'm highly against price bashing, which tends to be boarder-line insulting or outright ridiculous. Acurazine has or was the more level headed crowd, not too sure anymore after what I've experienced this year. Best years here were in 2007-2010. I don't know exactly how much longer I tend to keep the TL, but once it's sold i'm done with all of this.

Then you'll just be a regular in ramblings where you'll keep up with the real friendshits you have formed.
Dude, you think it's the lazy ass hand me a solution and then do it for me and then no please or thank you crowd that keeps me around?
It's the people like Ming, you, Justin...Joe, Joe, All the boys...that keep me around here. If someone is polite or asks a question I will answer it
but for the most part I stay out of all that...plus, all the new kids with their mods think they invented the game. Kiss the ring motherfuckers, you're
in the presence of greatness! LOL...we did it when we joined, we respected the guys before us. Not a hard concept and certainly one to
instill in our children!

<--Ming btw. Thanks J.

I don't know nearly as much as the OGs here about mods/repairs/nuances of the platform, and feeling like just learning each week now that I have a "proper" 3G TL...so looking forward to all the guys that are still around and contributing and advising on things. Which is awesome. You meet by having a common materialistic interest...and then you stay for the people/relationships.

But yeah I too thought used and new car prices would drop cause everyone would be out of work...but I was dead wrong....car prices going like crazy...guess still enough people making money to keep buying cars.....which is why my purchase made sense when the opportunity came up.

Not really great deals to be had right now in the usual car market these days.

Maybe next year when prices cool down more.

Nice Nist7 or Ming!

I'm doing what Jeremy said, with my 2004 base. Has some cosmetic issues that I’d like fixed, but isn’t horrible by any means, and get compliments all the time. But I will agree with the fact that dumping more money than need be, isn’t the wise decision for me. (Cause I have an autotragic!) lol! Your gem, I would definitely think differently about. Maybe not do all the things you’ve listed, but a few at a time.

Happy to finally found out who got J’s unicorn! Keep well in these rough times, and enjoy rowing gears in a beautiful car.

Just budget a new tranny rebuild (pre-op) once every 100K! Ming got 230K out of his last one!

Some people claim a tranny rebuilt is like $2K. Really, if it's a car you like that's not a big deal, especially when your spending $1K on tires every 2 or 3 years anyway.

I mean, on the flip side if you're not opposed to a new payment that could be the cash to cover the taxes on a new vehicle purchase...
gotta know when to hold em and know when to fold em.

Oh yeah, definitely not gonna be neglected by any means under my care. Certainly will not just let it go to crap like say a complete econo car daily beater.

Balancing between smart spending of money but also daily-ability.....its under garage kept now and after winter season will look into getting the body/paint fixed up. After that will need to get PPF vs Ceramic coating vs getting both..for longer term protection

Man that really puts things into perspective.....the cost of some vehicles....can be just the tax for an entirely new car.

The cost of this car gives tons of smiles/$/mile/gallon. More so than most new cars honestly....or maybe I'm just cheap...lol

Or if keeping super long term... can spend like $5-8k....OEM/restore everything that's not up to par to get it to basically 98%perfect...given its miles you won't get money back but if you want it great for 5++ years....honestly the dollar spent for the car experience you enjoy....cannot find another car for that money to give this level of satisfaction. All about value of your dollar and enjoyment of it.

Hobbies almost never make financial sense. So at some point, once it's no longer "a means of transportation" and becomes "a creative outlet" then the straight $ invest vs return doesn't really work right anymore.

You can always get creative and consider taking up smoking meth. Okay, now that you smoke meth, stop... And put that yearly savings into something less harmful, like a messing around with a car. Bam! $5k here, $2k there... No big deal anymore. And as a huge bonus, you still got your teeth. And you don't need to give handies behind the corner carwash.

You nailed it here...
And I try and keep that in mind which is why I don't budget baller ass wheels or air suspension or big money mods.
My goal is to break even more or less...on some I make a little, on others I lose a little but as long as I keep right around
break even on all the car adventures I consider it a hobby that only costs me time in exchange for experience and stories.

Naw brother, you're smart...
If I hadn't been tempted to get that S5 and get a loan on it I would have and probably should have just kept the TL as my daily and S2000 as my fun little toy...
with that said...the Jeep wasn't getting much use and wasn't fun to drive far...the TL was kind of extraneous in my fleet of daily drivers at the time...I need the
S4 to sell to pay off the 'Burban and then I'll be car payment free again and feel alright about it.

Small update this past weekend.

Did a oil and filter change and tire rotation. Basic maintenance FTW. Just clicked past 205,000 miles so far. 0 mechanical/driving issues. The colder early morning weather certainly is not as smooth for the MT shifts....been double-clutching in the first few miles when its cold out....when the car/trans warms up...the shifting is great....smooth and precise going into each gear.

Cold weather sucks on cars - they all feel cranky and pissed off.

Yeah no kidding.

It's like stiff joints in the morning...gotta take sometime to warm things up to get everything loosened up and smooth

Women wonder why we genderize our cars as female.

They can be temperamental out of nowhere, require you to take great care of them and cost lots of money in the process, or else someone might swipe them.

But at the same time they can just put a smile on your face in the worst times, be really satisfying, and it's hard to imagine life without them.

I've never gotten so pissed off that I smacked my wife with a wrench though... So there is a limit to the analogue.
