BLK Pnthr's "I Finally Got It" Progress Thread

Hey guys, I wanted to reach out to other TL lovers to help with my dilemma. So a few days ago, my 04 TL engine went at 270k. The mechanic s where I used to go to told me there was a leak and that it wasn't that bad not to worry about it. I was going to go in for an oil change on this past Tuesday. On sunday, took the car out for a drive engine overheated got to a Mr lube and turns out the car had no oil. Completely wrecked my engine. I knew I should have insisted to have the leak taken care of . Anyway I was debating, the last models of TLs I like are '08 I don't like any of the newer models they made. So I've been debating and wanted to know your opinions, should I just put a new engine and restore my 04; change radio system, new wrap, new rims? Or buy an 08? I found an 08 in mint condition all I would have to do is tint the windows, change exhaust put new rims on there......please help!!!!!!

You could probably find a salvage yard J35A6 out of the 05+ Odyssey (LX/EX only), much cheaper than a new car, and it is literally a direct drop in.

Read teh CL's thread below if interested:

I think this really depends on money. Do you want to buy another car and have the large cash outlay or possible loan payments? Or spend a few hundred, pick up a junk yard motor and swap it in? This is all your call here.

Yes that's what I was thinking too. It's the last of the 3rd generation. The new versions have less appeal it seems.

Difference between the 07 & 08 TL?

Hi guys just debating between the 07 (white) and the 08(black).

Is there much of a difference between the two?

The white 07 is 2300 and the black is 3700.

The 08 I'm black has 240k perfect condition the have the car fax and everything. Maintenance done on a regular basis. I would most likely tint the windows, put some nice rims in there and change the exhaust. Has backup camera and navigation.

The 07 is highway mileage mostly. Regular maintenance done as well on a regular basis. Little rust spot that can be taken care of. With this one I would probably get a paint job, fix the little rust spot, put some nice rims and exhaust but this one has a little of a higher mileage at 300k.

Both insides are in great condition. Everything is in working order.

White one is in rough shape. Looks more beat and that rust is too much. Looks like it may have been rear ended

There are almost no difference between 07-08 model (ask how I know lol). I would get the black one as a fresh start.

Please don't let your new TL end up looking like your old TL because it looks like a teenage girl went nuts with pink spray paint.

Does anyone know if the body kit fits on any of the 3rd generations or has any of you had issues fitting it on their cars? Because I have fog lights and just wondering if they were easy to insert or would have to remove them? I was thinking about getting a cat back exhaust non resonnated what do you guys suggest? I had in mind the XLR8.......

Wrong section. But to answer your question, the RJ body kit looks like hot trash in person. Just IMHO

Get the maintenance sorted first but that's a nice TL! How's the paint? Looks like it could use some correction.

I finally got the TLS!!!!!!

Hey guys I was for a time debating with wether I should fix my 04 or get an 08. I was debating between the 2 until I found an 08 TLS for half the price its selling down here. Of course with the age it will need some tender loving care. Needs a new paint job, exhaust ect...

Lol when I went to see it with my 04 the guy laughed because to him I was practically buying the same car lol. But OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG after going for a test drive with the 08 TLS I fell in love lol this car is a classic, one of the best and they'll never make other ones like this again. So I bought it lol.

Here's my new baby!!!!!!!!!!

but I just wanted to know mechanically speaking what parts I should change, or what are the first things I need to have inspected .

I know I've seen that I should have the water pump checked out or changed, in terms of fluids brakes, transmission and everything I should probably have these flushed and refilled...just wondering are there types of fluids/brands that are better for these cars? Can you guys give me a list of the things I should have checked or changed before I start modding this baby?

a used car is a used car is a used car is a used car...

which means; you should GO OVER every single aspect of the car.
put it up on a lift and inspect the suspension, brakes, etc.
a good time to change all fluids....coolant, brake fluid, oil, transmission fluid, wiper fluid. every thing.

if the car hasnt had it's 105k mile maintenance, then it would be a good idea to do that...water pump, timing belt, coolant, tensioners, etc.

basically GO OVER the car with a fine tooth comb. there's your list; CHECK EVERYTHING.

Why are you asking what maintenance to do on this one? You already had a TL so you should be well aware of what maintenance is required.

I would start by looking into why the front TL-S bumper was replaced with a base model bumper.

I knew something looked different, but hadn't placed it yet on the bumper. I guess it really only matters to the OP if the bumper isn't quite the right one. On the outside, the car looks decently clean. It is a huge step up from their previous TL. As long the OP is happy with their purchase, who cares.
