My car fell off a tow truck, what did you ever do with your life!?

After blowing A F*CKING tire on the highway the factory front tow hook snaps as the guy is finishing loading my car on the flatbed ... I thought it was going to go into traffic. I got lucky and it landed in a ditch full of huge creek stones.

Insurance rented me a car, and waived the deductable. They already cut the check too. They want to replace the bumper cover, inspect/repair the frame where the bolt broke off, repair the aspec lip(s) and they paid me for a factory tip. They also said the rear cover should be "fine" ...

I'm thinking of just getting a type S front end with no aspec lip for now. Thoughts?

Here are the pics:

scene after running back towards the car

where she ended up:

Wow. Scary.
I assume you didn't have a spare tire in the back?

Hope your fine and that things will work out.

Type-S front would be a nice addition. Then you can pair it up with a base-lip and it'll be

I'm pretty sure that's exactly what it's for. They hook up to that to pull it up onto the bed. It makes it easier and decreases the risk of scratching up the bumper/lip while doing so. Of course, if the hook snaps you're increasing the damage.

That's crazy. I can't believe that thing snapped. Kind of scary actually.

pardon my ignorance, but why would you want to put a base lip on a type s bumper? why not just get an 07-08 base bumper+a spec lip? i thought the direction of the s bumper fogs might not work as well with the 07-08 base aspec lip?

The car was too low to jack it up once the tire was flat. I'm going to raise it as soon as i get it back.

You haven't lived until you've seen your $30k car roll off a tow truck uncontrolled

Glad to hear that your insurance is taking care of all of this for you. If you're going the UA7 route with the front bumper/A-Spec lip, choose the base like Twisdit did. Like others have said, it's much cleaner looking.

Why sue the towing company if the front tow bolt is what broke? Sounds like an Acura part failure to me unless I'm missing something.

I also like the 07-08 front base with Aspec. Looks very clean and is what I would change if I was in the same predicament. Good luck with everything.

def seems like a part failure, although im not sure if its supposed to be used to pull the cars weight up onto a flat bed. More like in a straight line, he could have used the sub frame or something. Either way alteast its getting fixed and getting you a new bumper.

jack it up from the rear, put something under the rear tire, lower the car and jack it up from the front jackpoint...ive got it down to a science sorry to hear about the tl, luckily damage looks minimal compared to what could have happened.

It wasn't the towers fault. My insurance company agrees. I felt bad for the guy.

I laughed when it happened. I'm pretty zen about shit like this when nobody gets hurt. This is why we have insurance.

Also, the exhaust just got scratched. They paid me for a stock tip. I'm not going to replace the tip anyway so who cares.

Dang Chris. Now I know why you needed the tires, amongst other things. It sucks that it happened, but could have been worse. Good thing you're a good sport about it. Other than the scratches and flat, the car looks good!

Lemme know if you're still interested in the tires, i'll drive up to hampton/newport news if you need to - cuts about 40 minutes of travel

As far as being calm/cool about it I just take the approach that everything here is only temporary. I'm sure I will own tons more cars. Don't live in the moment, just for it.

Secondly, Jacking the back up would make everything on the other side of the fulcrum (in this case the front tires) lower but everything on the side you are jacking up higher. Then the jack point is higher because it is behind the tire (fulcrum).

Think of a see-saw

This happens all the time. those hooks are meant to be pulled straight on and not from the side. Being in insurance i see things like this all the time, tow driver (some) suck! I had to have my TL towed and i sat and watched every spot he hooked to. i wouldnt let him use the eye hood to pull just to hold it down to the bed

The damage is not bad at all considering. Its all repairable, minus the A-Spec lips... cant repair texture black plastic!

I gotta ask... in situations like these, where the car is sort of drivable... why not just drive it up onto the bed?

front tires were flat and it was two low. There is more control using a hook and the bed of the truck to maneuver. Especially since my car is dumped.

Do you have a source for the lip not being able to be repaired? That is what the insurance wanted to do ... It's only a couple bucks more to buy new ones ...
