light crazy on my 07 WDP TL-S

hey guys just wanted to show you what i did to my type-s as far as lighting. as many of you already know the type-s comes with two small very weak under dash lights. i decided to go a bit brighter with some cathode light tubes and add some under the two fron seats as well. i went ahead and ordered 4, 4" red cold cathodes and a set of 12" white cathodes for the rear license plate lights. here's what i did.

these are the weak lights under the dash

this is one of the 4" cold cathodes

i cut the light off and wired the power wires to this barrier strip that i got from radio shack then i could hook up multiple lights easily. here it is all hooked up for two cathodes. i did the same for each side.

here they are on. they turn on and off with your headlight switch

here's the back seat shot. i ran some wire along the side under the plastic covers and under the seat were the cathode and inverters were mounted

it matches the interior lights really well. and it's not too bright.

a shot of the side marker i modified. i changed out the amber leds for some bright white ones from superbrightleds.com

the 12" cold cathodes installed in the rear license plate lights. much brighter than stock

i also installed piaa reverse light bulbs and NOKYA Arctic White Pro Halogen Bulbs in the fogs. my next light project will be to clear out the headlights and install an HID kit for the daytime running lights. what do you guys think.

Did you say "not too bright."? Sweet modification. Probably too bright for my personal preference, but I definitely like the direction and concept as a whole.

Nice side marker mod by the way. I've done the same to mine.

Good luck keeping them lit. Those cold cathode inverters are rather unreliable. I went through about a dozen in my PC before I gave up on cold cathodes all together.

i don't know what kind of bulbs they use but these are just as bright if not brighter. it's a relatively easy mod.

at 1.99 for the inverter and 3.99 for the whole kit (inverter+tubes) i could live with that. the specs say a lifetime of 30,000 hrs we'll see

i'm not an expert either, but these lights are pretty simple. i am located in OC about 2 miles off the chapman ave exit on 55 fwy.

yes, just wire them to the interior dome lights. they are not that bright. in the pic they do look brighter than they really are. the lights are reflecting off the clear plastic floor mats, so they look bright in the pic.

Side markers are relatively easy to do, if you're comfortable with soldering, that is. There's a pretty comprehensive thread detailing how to do this modification. I pretty much followed it to a T and it worked for me. I had my own little tweaks that I did differently, but the concept is the same. Hit me up with a PM if you need help. There's another guy who recently did this modification, too, who might be willing to help.

Might depend on the make, but they are more reliable than the LEDs people have been buying. 6 Months and going strong on my cold Cathodes.

Anyone else notice that the clock read "4:20"?

I don't really know what that means but I've heard that it pertains to drugs or something.

I think it means the time is 4:20 and that you might be on some drugs.

No drugs here, my friend. I've got a nice house, lots of sweet toys, a nice car and a family with a couple boys. I've got too much to lose by doing drugs, but I will admit that I kind of falsely self-implicated myself by even bringing up the 4:20 term.

What a coincidence.... i'm in Irvine and the other guy that's interested, crzygosu87, lives somewhere around here too!

He is a stalker and wants to do a photoshoot with me. (I hope he is talking about my car and not me) hahahahah

It'd be coo if we could all meet up, we can check out your lights, and he can take some pics. You contribute your lights and electrical knowledge, he contributes his camera and photo shooting knowledge, and I..... well, i'll just be there. Sorry I have nothing to contribute since I'm worthless. HA!

reviving an old thread here

hey man, all you did was split the OEM plug into that metal strip? no invertors or relays or fuses or any bullshit like that?

whats the other little box that looks like a speaker?

Not sure why you'd need relays, CCFL tubes are very low draw.

The speaker box is a CCFL inverter box. You usually need 1 per every two CCFL tubes installed.

I spliced my led clusters directly into the existing wiring too. no issues.

They would look better with a black carpet imo or less brighter i guess cuz it won't reflect

but JPTL04, what kinda LED do you have in ur interior lights?

do you have all red? that'd be crazy. or do you have all white? (i have all white)

can u post a pic with ur interior lights on as well? =D

i have not done anything to the domes, but i think i'm gonna get some leds in there im liking the super white ones. like i said these aren't really that bright, it just came out looking like that in the pic. i have some ExactMats to protect the mats. they are custom cut to fit the oem mats perfectly. money well spent, mats are in brand new condition.

the light was reflecting off these. i have charcol grey color carpet
