Thanks guys.
@The Machine - I've been wanting one for a long time now, and when I came across a Sony SLT-A35 with kit lens on clearance for $250, I decided if I was ever going to do it, now was the time. I know its not a Nikon or Canon T4i like all the cool kids are using, but for me its a great way to get into it at a much lower cost.
Another benefit is that these Sony cameras can use the old Minolta lenses I've found out, which are great lenses and readily available on eBay at fair prices. Looking forward to trying some out!

Awesome shots!
And thank you for using Flickr.
And yes I'm sure he used a tripod, handheld at night is nearly impossible

Thanks guys...no tripod
Camera has a scene mode for handheld night photography with no flash. It takes several pictures at a time and processes them together. Upside is nice crisp shots with no tripod, downside is that since it processes in the camera right after you take it, no RAW images, just jpeg. Either way, I'll take it
And from what I'd heard, Flickr was a much better host than Photobucket, so figured I would make the switch now that I have decent pictures. Question tho - do you guys end up paying every couple months to upload more than 300MB? Coz I'm already at 23% of that with only 9 images uploaded.

Yea, I suppose if I only bother uploading the nice shots, I should be able to stay within the limits. But I agree, $25 a year isn't bad considering everything else we spend on these damn cars...
And J - those first shots were actually inspired by you - that's the side wall of a Wal-Mart the TL is up against

Thanks Steven. I try to keep it clean as much as possible, anxiety seems to set in anytime it's dirty.
And to the photography gurus out there, please give any advice that comes to mind, either while shooting or for post processing. This was my first attempt, and to my untrained eye I like them, but I don't know enough to fix them any more.
I'll be in Breckenridge, CO tomorrow for a quick ski trip too, so hopefully I can get some good pics there. Not of the TL of course, but the scenery

And for fancy camera, no tripod?
And being an "amateur" photographer, do you know what to do with RAW files? lol

Thanks guys. And Austin, no, don't really know what to do with RAW files, but don't really know what to do with jpegs either Lots to learn on all accounts.
I shoot in raw + jpeg mode whenever I can. That way, I get both and can delete what I don't want.

Haha, no worries, just didn't know if you knew the difference or not.
RAW files require you to process them, I don't know a whole lot about it other than the fact it's a pain to do.
I shoot in jpg., and basically, the camera takes the photo and then processes it on it's own.
It's much easier for the amateur and faster, you just can't do certain things with it like you could a RAW file. When it shoots jpg., it gives it the colors it thinks it needs. If you shoot RAW, you can pretty much fix the colors to your liking.
BUT, he's another factor, in order to have proper colors that are truly accurate, you need an IPS screen. So many things to consider.

Yea, I knew that jpegs were processed in the camera, which is why that night mode can only shoot jpeg. It processes several shots together to achieve what it does.
Didn't realize that about the IPS screen tho, but it makes sense. Oh well, that's probably not on my list any time soon

Yeah, IPS screens show the best color that is true to the real thing.
Like right now, my screen shows your pictures differently from what you're seeing on your end.

I just sat through PS trying to process 1800 raw images to jpeg....takes for ever !!! but the amount of adjustment it allows you, is almost worth the pain IMO....

haha....neat pix KJ !!!
Jeremy, raw images are shot in nef format...you can only open them in PS and by shooting in raw, it gives you a lot of adjustment ability....then you convert them to jpg and upload it to flickr....the amount of adjustment it offers will blow your mind....you will always shoot in raw

Rell - I used Bar Keepers Friend, it's a cleaning supply that you can get at most places for about $2
And swoosh, thanks for the info. I think I will have access to PS soon, so hopefully I can play around some and start to learn it.
