Keeping up with the S2000's through the twisties...*no 56K
This past Sunday, I went for a cruise in the mountains with a few of my friends, who were friends with others w/ S2000's. S2ki.com folks were going on a cruise, as well, so we joined 'em for a while.
Some how, I ended up in the middle of the pack. Now, with S2k's in front, and with several more behind, I was under pressure to not be "that guy"... the retard that's holding up the pack.
I gotta tell ya, I had no problem keeping up/catching up on the relatively straight roads, but whenever we hit the real twisties, my "guide" in front suddenly vanishes into the twisties and 4 sets of frustrated S2K headlights appear on the mirror... It put more pressure on me than it really should have. I thought this is how the old people must feel when they're doing 10 mph below the speed limit.
s2ki.com folks... + TL, Z, STi
straight-aways were a breeze for me, even had the time to stick my arm out the sunroof and snap this pic
Now, some pics after we broke off from the S2K pack and started climbing the mount. (Mt. Evans elev 14k~ ft)
Look, 13k+ft and NO guardrail!

Some of the roads were pretty difficult, and while we weren't dumb enough to push the car to the limit, our driving was *somewhat* aggressive but still played it safe.
I was following the Z & the STi w/o a problem, although the STi stayed mostly in 3rd, while me in 2nd.
The roads were very narrow often with no shoulder, no guard rails anywhere, rocky cliffs... it was beautiful up there.

^The road to the summit was actually a toll-road, and they had already closed the last few miles or so for the season. I'm not sure what they do when it snows, though.
I went up the Pikes Peak historic highway (toll, scenic route) in february/march last year, and there was snow which they had plowed... FYI, this route went up to 13k~ ft. too, and there were no guard rails there either.
