Yeah the factory sub is a free-air design. In fact if you remove the cover in the trunk (where the trunk light is) to expose the back of the rear deck speakers (where I believe your sub-amp is installed) you will also see the back of the factory sub. I initially tried to open up this area for an aftermarket 8" sub to fit in the factory location, and seal it up but the rear deck has way too many holes and even 1% of air leakage from a sealed enclosure ruins the sound.

As for the tweeters, actually I did the install (most of it, lol) with the supervision of the same shop that made my current sub-box in the trunk of the TL. They come out real easy from the top of the dash, we just used a pocket knife. The factory tweeter itself is attached to the grille. I replaced just the tweeters in the TL with Memphis, Power Reference, 1" Aluminum Coated Poly Dome Component Tweeter, 15-PR16T. This tweeter matched the omh rating as the original factory tweeter and is 50 watt max and 25 watt continuous power handling which is perfect for the factory TL amp. It also comes with a 2-way crossover which may not have been necessary to install but I opted to anyways since it was designed to work with this specific tweeter (it can only help).

It cost me nothing to install it but I can only guess that it would be approx. $30-$45 to install and the tweeters cost me $50. My guess is that almost anyone with any install skill would be able to tackle this job in less than an hour total.

I did not want to replace the front door speakers and the tweeters both since this would dramaticlly change the dynamics of the already heavily researched and designed factory system of the TL. Although I did look into it I opted not to since all of the better quality speakers required different power ratings to result in better sound quality than what already exists.

Sorry no pics to show for this mod, but if you or anyone decide they want to change them out, I'll post pics of what I've got.

Upon changing to aftermarket tweeters I immediatly noticed a clearer brighter sound. No longer does the Treble setting have to be maxed out, in fact it sits at 0 and sounds perfect. With the sub and tweeters all my settings are at 0. My system now sounds good at all volume levels.

Jerky, so far I've found myself liking my TL more everyday and more everymile I put on it. Everything I do to mod this car is for me and my TL, kind of like my TL is my signiture! Also I'm 100% for sharing it with you and other TLers and telling how and talking about it; so don't hesitate to ask me anything (what, why, how, how much, etc.) since I won't hesitate to ask you and everyone else here (except: How do you take such dang good pictures? ...since I know you couldn't possible tell me, lol.)

- TL's rock! I love my TL the most, ...shouldn't/ don't we all think this way about our own?! lol

Yes ChuSteveb

we all should love it !!

Thanks for all the tips, im going to crawl in there and take a look, Fortunatly, i can just turn the sound down on my sub using the factory system, wouldn't that do the trick?

Turning the sub down is fine. In fact, you could just turn the gain all the way down which turns that channel off, from your headunit controls and see if it makes any difference at all. It may be that the factory sub is so underpowered that you will not notice much difference if any at all. Leaving it on probably won't make it sound better though, especially at higher volumes since that is when more power will be pushed to both subs, and of course the factory one will crap out first and you'll know since it's pretty obvious.

Hey Jerky,

Just about laughed my butt off last night....I was sitting at a light and SAW YOUR SQUISHY CAR coming down the road in the other direction. Now I MUST preface my comparison by saying that I spotted the SQUISHY after happy hour (well more like happy 3 hours), but there it was.....a silver Toyota Echo.

great question!

they are chromed, and have a black powder ccoating in the inside, this is one of the four types of wheels you can buy from acura

in some of the shots the wheels are duller, that's because they are dirty!

When they are clean, they look BLING... when they are dirty, they look gun metal! so either way, they look really good

thanks!

Shoot, my engine light came on this morning, i had to drop it off at the dealership, i wonder what it could be,

its all under warrenty, so im not tripping

(and yes, the gas cap is tightly on)

FYI, I've had my car for Almost 6mos, and i have 15k miles on it

I love it, and don't regret it a bit, ill do a more formal write up later, detailing some of the good points and bad points about the vehicle

There is the stock 5 Spoke

Then the Aspec Wheels (its really a double 5 spoke...it looks like 10)

here are the types of finishes available for aspec wheels that acura provides, be aware the EACH dealer calls them something differnt, there is little consistency

1: Black Chrome or Dark Chrome (what i got)
Super shiney when cleaned

2: I think there is a gun metal one...look

3: A darker looking one...ill have to take pics of my buddies later

4: Grey one

Shoot, i think ive got these all wrong...can someone else help?

Removed and Replaced EGR valve, tested light is off 311100, 311092

Part Number ACC 18011 RCA A00

Factory Defect CD 03214 FP 18011RCAA00

1.2 Hours of labor (no charge under warrenty)

and Free Enterprise rent a car...

I got it down on Jan 2004. At that time Acura had not issued any TSBs yet for this issue, but just provided the service guideline. Also, my TL didn't have any sensors or stuff broken, they only did the software update.

Try to get one if you have any future repaired items. Thanks.
