DW's Work in Progress Build Thread

What's up everyone! Thought I should get into the progress thread game since I plan on doing a lot to "my" brand new AM 04' TL (Base w/Navi) over the next weeks, months and years.
Will be needing useful advice as I go, since I'm so damn indecisive when it comes to mods and what to buy. However, from reading all the AZ threads, I know this is a very helpful place to run too. So far the car hasn't gotten too much love from me and my wallet, but that will begin to change soon!

Current mods:
- 35% Tint all-around (Came w/car)
- 18x8 Niche Targa M131 Wheels (Came w/car)
- Debadged emblems, except for Acura logo emblem
- Plastidipped front grill (Black) and wheels (Gloss Black)
- Black vinyl wrapped rear trunk trim (Plan on vinyl wrapping front grill soon)

Mods to come in the next several months:
- Decklid lip/roof spoiler (Purchased yesterday)
- Blacked headlights/Custom tails/Smoked rear side markers
- Switchbacks
- Inspire fog mod
- Coilovers
- A-Spec kit
- Exhaust overhaul (very indecisive on exhaust choices!)

- Rotor/Brake overhaul
- Re-tint to 20%
- Possible aftermarket sub/amp
- CAI
- New wheels/tires
- And more to come!

The day she came home 7/13/14:

Sorry for the picture quality and glare, my HTC camera is a joke, plan on investing in a camera soon. Thanks for checking out my progress so far though! 'Rich' man mods coming soon!

Looking pretty good. Which coilover setup are you thinking about going with?

I've heard good things about the Form and Function Type 2's, but I'm honestly open to any possible recommendations. Do you have any coil advice?

Just got confirmation that my roof spoiler, and hopefully trunk lip will be here Monday! Then hopefully subs will be installed this upcoming Saturday/Sunday. Stay tuned for pics.

How'd you get your plastidipped rims so glossy? Did you use a glossifier or did it come straight from the can that way?

Looks good so far OP!

I would recommend staying away from F&F coilovers. Look into TEIN, ISC, or BC coilovers instead. Whatever brand you get, make sure they offer damping adjustment which allows you to tune the softness of stiffness of the ride.

In the original post he said he used gloss enamel on top of the PD.

Thank you! So when it comes to the adjusting the coils, would you say adjusting for a softer ride is ideal? Or is it more of a personal preference?

Yeah like CLtotheTL32 said, I used gloss enamel. 4 coats of black dip, 4 coats Rustoleum Gloss Enamel

Been busy with moving and work, hopefully I can add some pics tonight of the spoiler additions. Got my 1st ticket the other day, so that may set back my modding timeline a bit

It wasn't as bad as it could of been. It was right before a construction work zone, so I'm not too upset

I'm curious about your engine covers though. I haven't looked into this at all but how'd you go about painting them? Do you have a thread that helped you out?

Got bored today and decide to fix up an extra pair of tails I got a month ago. They were scratched to shit when I got them, so I spent the last couple hours wetsanding them to a "better" shine. I plan on cutting them open and painting them, but I havent't decide what color tails look best on AM.

Took a slight break at modding due to bills from a knee injury I got a few months back, but its time to show my boo some love again lol. I'm trying to decide what direction I want to go first and could use some help. I want to add the AEM V2, RV6 V3 J-Pipe, Magnaflow mufflers (still deciding which set) and new tips, but I have know clue what order to go in. Any words of wisdom is appreciated!

Update

After several long months of deciding what to do next to the TL, I decided I wanted to add Inspire fogs. Well I placed a order thru jdmautolights and after two weeks, found out the color I picked is not in stock (still trying to contact to cancel order). So I hit up Aaron with WiseDetailz for a set. Well over the last several months we had been talking about doing a headlight mod, and yesterday I finally pulled the trigger for the headlight mod and the inspires.

I also went ahead and purchased the leds from the "best led thread", for my upper fogs and the Hoen Endurance bulbs for the inspires (love the jdm look for some reason). Of course adding Triton switch backs in headlight housing as well.

Hopefully I will have everything installed and glowing in the next few weeks!

Headlights getting finished in the next few days. After a 2 day struggle to get the Inspire fogs mounted and wired, me and my buddy finished them last night. My dremel tool caught on fire, as I started cutting out the second grille. So I had to resort to some other (non helpful) tools in my arsenal. We went ahead and independently wired my stock fogs as well while we had everything apart. Will post pics later today!

Went ahead and removed the stock resonator. I can really feel the difference when having to accelerate, feels freed up. Also changed my O-ring in my PS hose, so no more morning whine! Vinyl wrapped my front grill. Kinda messed up the middle section and went to redo, but didn’t have enough vinyl left. I’ll fix once my headlights come in.

Picked up a pair of the CREE Led 9006 bulbs from the “Best LED’s on the Market!”thread. In the Inspires, I decided on the JDM look and picked up the Hoen Endurance bulbs, which are a perfect yellow (without tint). Still waiting on the headlights, but will have Vled Switchbacks and upgraded 5k hids bulbs.

Side note: Pic quality ain’t the best, hopefully Santa will bring a new camera for Xmas! Only 42 DAYS!

Well after about 2 months of going crazy at work and trying to finish up my fall term at school, I am proud to say I'm back to working on my boo. Over the last month I put my new custom headlights in and just ordered new Magnaflow mufflers and tips. I will post sound clips and pics in the next week once everything has been said and done!

muffler tip is a waste of money IMO, you better off going stock or full system. Nice ride and keep up with the progress.

I probably should have just left the stock tips, but I love wasting money! But thank you!

So I got the exhaust work done. Decided to go with a stage 4 setup and deleted both my mid-muffler and resonator and ran SS straight pipe to two new Magnaflow 11365 mufflers. Yes I wasted the money for new quad tips, but I like the look and especially the sound! Pics and more videos to come in a few days.

After much debate and research, I pulled the trigger today on XLR8 ISC's Race/Track Coils. It was between those and the Tein SA's, But with a higher spring rate, 32 way adjustable damper, new top hats and over 3 inch lowering capability, it was a no brainer especially at their current clearance price. Hope to have them in my hand and installed by next Sunday!
