Interesting.. I take it you were not at a 4 way stop since that looks like a pretty good speed impact?

Just as long as you're OK, a car can be replace, I'm suprised the windows didn't shatter.

was it a 4-way stop? if it wasnt and your lane had a stop sign while the other car didnt, its gonna be tough proving you right.

glad you're okay though.

Without knowing any details, I would think that if the cop and the insurance said he ran the stop sign, then he probably did. Down here right on red is legal and these ppl dont even slow down.

Just glad no one was seriously injured.

Hmmmm.. totalled? i dont think so. looks like most of the impact was inbetween the A & C pillars. Figure a couple of hours on the frame machine, airbags, new doors, molding and skirts and paint. $18k is probably pretty close.. maybe a little less... doubtful to be totalled, and car will probably run good as new

its hard to tell from the pics, but how is the front fender? if thats damaged you may be escalating towards $20k

If fixed, car will be fine....however, the alignment may never be the same again if the wheels got nipped

i picked up the gf to go to school on tuesday. and no it wasnt a four way stop. i was actually at the stop sign for a while and checked before getting on to the street. i was trying to cross to make a left turn onto the main street when i got hit. the girl got onto the main street a little before i did so technically, she was already on the main road and had right of way. when the cop got there, it seemed like he knew her family cuz they were bein all friendly with each other and he was bein an ass towards me . pretty bull shit imo but w'e. the gf and i are ok. just kinda sore. the insurance company says the car is totalled . i think it was both doors on the driver side, side skirt, interior stuff on the doors, both driver side curtain air bags, and prolly frame damage. imma try to rip out my k40 tomorrow and whatever else they'll let me take from the car before they take it away

i doubt im getting the car fixed tho cuz insurance rates are crazy. they're already charging around 4k for 6 months of coverage and threatening to double/triple the rates after this accident. mom said she wants to find me a car that's around 4-5 years old to drive for a while til our rates go down

1st... Im so really glad you guys are OK... sore you can fix... other things don't work out so well... anyhoo, 2nd... ur rates in Texas are so high anyway... they just want an excuse to jack you!!! I think it takes about 3 years for an at fault accident to fall off your driving record... anyone know otherwise? Plz correct me if I am wrong... Thx

...most insurance companies will total a car if the damage is equal to or exceeds about 70% of the BB value... my wife's truck just got totaled in a similar accident... but the guy hit her and then lied to the police... suffice it to say we are looking for a new truck and we have a lawyer...

I'm guessing his rates are already high because in has been in previous accidents. Add now add this one to the tally.

I'm not an advocate for insurance companies but I understand they need to turn a profit and high risk drivers usually pay out the nose or lose insurance because they lose the company money.

I think mostly because he's only 18. First time drivers get the worst rates ever and that fact that it was almost a brand new TL-S.

lol it was a brand new tl-s when i bought it. but yea..like you guy ssaid, i got a quote from the dealership to fix it and they said after taking it apart and everything, it'll end up costing around 20k. two dealerships won't fix it and an outside shop won't even fix it cuz they said it'll be too much trouble. mom said the same so yea..i dont think im getting it fixed. been car huntin for a couple days but still dunno what to get. i've had pretty bad luck with acuras so i doubt i'll be getting another one even though i loved the tl.

You could pick up a 2nd Gen TL, those are nice too.

Also what I would do is see if anyone would want to buy things from your car that are valuable, like the Type-S wheels, that's probably worth $600.

wao...you can probably tell your "side" of the story....if the police wasnt there when it happened, how did he know that the other car had the right of way???

Don't assume it's your fault, dude!....She got you on the side...many insurance companies will believe it wasnt your fault.

yeah, but he's the guy that was taking the left turn, now if he was the one driving on the main road and then got nailed on the side..theres a good chance that it wasnt his fault. Since he's the one that was actually going across traffic, chances are they will blame him. In any case, he nor his gf were injured and he's moved on..

btw OP..ure a traitor going to Toyota..should have at least stayed with Honda

Anyways, glad to see you back in an Acura. Does your mom's bf want to adopt a kid? My birthday is not for another 6 months
