One of the members on this forum asked me where I got the BLACK CHROME ACURA BADGE that is on my TL.

I bought the car with the current Mods on it, the Badge being one of them.

I asked the guy that sold me the car and he said it is actually called "Black Pearl"
and is done by LEXUS.
He said it cost him about $100.00 do have it done.

Has anyone seen one like this before?
Does anyone know where to get something like this done?

I wanted to see about getting the front emblem on the Grill done too.

NOTE: this is not painted black it is a finish like Chrome.

Black pearl is a chrome plating process. There are platers out there that do it and it runs between $35-$45 per emblem. They actually need to etch off the existing chrome and replate it. The only problem with this is that the foam adhesive on the rear emblem comes off. The rear emblem will stay on by itself when pushed in and/or you could apply some silicone or thin double sided tape as insurance.

I know it was a option when I bought my car back in 2001. They had it on a silver TL looks really nice.

Back when I had my '98 VW Golf GTi VR6 I had a front VW emblem like this. There was a company out in florida doing this for VW Sport/1552 Design back in the day. I am sure you can find someone online that knows where to get it done.

I cant remember man it was back in Jan of 2001 when I got my TL. I think it was only the rear. The 3.2tl badge, the A, ACURA.

I am pretty sure a parts dept at Acura should have the prices.

It was available for several late-90's - early 2000 Honda's & Acura's right from the parts departments.

I had them for my '99 Accord & now my CL-S6.
They call them 'Black Chrome', had to order though but who cares! I love them & wish they would bring them back.

If you notice the MDX rear A-C-U-R-A are black chrome.

They also offered it for the S2K which is actually the emblem that I have on my car.

I was already gonna call them cuz they are close to me, but VelfarreClubber confirmed they would have them.

The parts guy there said they had 3 kits left and TRANCEMISSION bought one.

So if you want one you better act fast.

I have an extra set of emblems I bought to paint myself. Im going to see if I can take them somewhere here in the Dallas area and get them black chromed. If I can do it reletivily cheap Ill let you guys know....

That would be great. I would like to get a set if it's pre-chromed.

If the parts guy at Acura dealership has them, what's the part #s for those that have already bought them?

I'll go to my dealer now and get 'em if I can. hehe. How about black chroming the a-spec badge too?

he doesnt have any left. just talked to him like 15 minutes ago.. he just shipped mine out. he didnt ship them friday

but he told me he wasnt going to do it anymore. those he had he has had for over a year he said. Im going to do some research on this and I will for sure let you know...

I asked him and he said he hadnt really seen the demand for them until I called. they just ship them to a local guy who did them for the dealer. Im sure anybody can do it unless you get the guys name who he sent them to. I think it was Mr. Chrome or something like that.

in the meantime someone should get in contact with whoever did this for the dealer. i would gladly pay a premium over the price of the emblems to get this. there is a market for them

It's just a concept/picture that I had a friend work up on Photoshop. I think it would be a great idea to have a middle HID type light showing off the A emblem. I don't know how to make one so I'm asking someone who's into making new products for help.

I work for a lighting manufacturer, I could probably look into making it.

But honestly i think it would be a bit over the top.

I am guessing you would have to make it out of a clear or white plastic that could be backlit. I am concerned that it would be kinda ugly during the day when the light is off.

Sweet SweetTL...Please do look into it. I was imagining that it could be make out of the same material that umtizza(?) makes their angel eyes out of. It only has to light up the A and not circle around it. It could be clear with reflective backing, kinda like a headlight backing, with white LED at the back or white OLED? I dunno. I'd be willing to talk to you about it via PM or something.

I think there should be enough interest in this product to make 50 at least. for the 3G TL..

I actually bought a small plating tank do mine. I am having bandwidth issues with Photbucket so i can't post pics right now but you can see them in the "Arizona heat spawns hot TL" thread. I am looking into getting this done on a bigger scale and will let you guys know.

Dude we would have to make 5,000 to even make it worth while.

We would have to R&D the design, then make moulds, then Manufacture them.

I don't think they would spend all that money and manpower to sell 50 of these unless you wanted to pay a ridiculous amount of money for them.

I will look into it though.

Just installed the trunk emblem. Looks pretty good.


I took different viewpoints. Sometimes its looks black depending how you look at it.


The hardest part really was getting the glue off..
