Audio Mod Pics

Well some of my first mods have been complete. I figured I'd start with the TL sound system, which sounded amazing, but I need a bit more a$$ with my music so here tis.

1. Replaced front speakers with JL Audio XR series component set.
2. Replaced rear 6" speakers with JL Audio.
3. Installed (or the shop did) JL audio OEM clean sweep for direct IPOD hookup.
4. MB Quart 12 Inch Sub
5. JL audio 500/5 AMP.

I must say I'm happy as a clam.

OEM Clean sweep switch.

Amp Pics.

Sub Pics. The enclose is not soo deep as to not leave a tiny bit of trunk space.
I love the look, almost looks as though it came with the car.

Simple install and the trunk looks great with plenty of room. Great Job! Is the Clean Sweep only for the IPOD or did you get rid of the stock amp in favor of the JL Audio?

Nice and clean install, you know what i noticed just now... the people who upgrade their audio are mostly ssm owners like myself.

I thought about getting the clean sweep myself for the ipod and clean up the audio in the front but im not so sure about how the vol. works, can you tell me about it?

oh btw the 06's are gonna have some sort of ipod connection directly to the oem head unit.

Couple of Questions Answered

1.

Getting to the spare was the first thing I checked. No problem.

2.

The volume controls with the OEM clean sweep is one thing I really dont like. For the stock head unit, I simply leave the clean sweep turned all the way up and use the volume on the head unit. Sounds sweet.

For the IPOD, I have to use the volume on the clean sweep. This is because the IPOD connector uses the "bottom" interface which does not seem to acknowledge the volume control on the IPOD. What I've started doing is simply using the casette adapter again. Seems to sound just as loud, but on some songs the quality is just a tiny bit lacking. I must admin the clean sweep sounds better in terms of quality. Perhaps i need a more powerful AMP.

I think the best benefit for the OEM clean sweep is if you plan on using DVD and sever other auxillary inputs such as Sirius radio.

3.

Let me know when and where the meet is, but lets not use this thread for that too much.

Very clean install! How's the sound compared to stock (besides more bass)?

Chill_dog

Sounds amazing. Especially since i also replaced those sorry speakers. Sound sound if fuller inside the car. I remember turing the factory system up to "40" and saying..."IS THAT IT". Now, 10 - 15 is enough with plenty of BASS. I love it.

I had concerns about a woofer in the trunk. I thought I would be lacking in bass, but a custom quality enclosure makes a big difference.

Put it this way. I asked my son after a ride, "thumbs up or thumbs down". He put his thumb up over his head.

so i am assuming you did not do it yourself??

was labor/custom install expensive since it was a "new" car?

looking into doing this next, but just want to make sure it is worth it.

Looks great by the way.

I paid to have it done. It was a bit pricey, mainly due to labor and the custom enclosure. I was willing to pay it though. The hell if i'm going to take my car to those "teenagers" at BestBuy and let them slice and dice my car. I heard horror stories about getting behind the gead unit in a TL, so I figured a shop that does custom work on high end cars is the best place.

I was going to push a JL12W6, but the enclosure would have needed to be deeper (at least thats what the installer said).

Great choice in components though. Who did the install if you don't mind me asking?

The trunk looks really clean. I'm thinking about going with a custom enclosure. How much they charge for something like that?

About 3500 for all components, labor and custom enclosure. I know, a bit pricey, but I cant do the crap myself.

i think that i might go with something like that.................either one looks good.

i was thinking about 1 12"JL w7 or something that can really handle some juice.

did that installer tell you that the box would be a lot bigger for the more powerful sub?? Thanks.

the box on my sub is a JL box that will work for all JL products (jl 12w7, or what ever) and you can put as big of an amp that you would like. JL makes a 1000/ 1.

o and jl now makes a 13' speaker

what is the model number for the MB Quart sub?

Everything looks nice, I think I will take the plunge. I am using the same amp but will probably do a 10 inch sub and Focal coaxes all the way around with the cleansweep. Very nice install.

Also what is the LED for that is above the volume knob?
