Wink ATLP Roof Spoiler (with unpainted pics)!

The spoiler came in today while I was at work. Please excuse the night pics as I haven't had much sleep in the last few days and this is the only photo opp I have had. Also, please excuse the ungodly amount of sawdust all over my car - still in the project of attempting to build the world's loudest TL (by audio), the reason I haven't had much sleep! (pics of this to come as the project gets closer to completion)

Anyway, here they are:

Overall, I think it was worth the amount I paid. It fits very flush against the rear window and the sides seem to stretch from end to end with a flat surfaced mount all across. The only thing I would have included as the seller would be at least 3m tape to mount it with. No instructions were included but instructions are for monkeys anyway!
Between spending way more time and money on making a massive audio setup and working on getting the wing and other parts painted, I can't really say when it will actually be mounted. I'll update this page as updates come.

Hah, yea the sawdust is everywhere - even inside because I kept the trunk open during the build. The car is clean underneath though!

The preorder was $215 shipped. I think they are still working on getting that first batch paid for and shipped out before the second batch is priced and available. From what I understand, it will be more but I don't know how much.

I should be able to get better pics tomorrow. It was kind of hard holding it up and snapping shots! I'll actually mount it with 3m tape and get all kinds of different angles because that's what I'd want to see if I was considering buying it. Although I bought it on a hunch....ha. I might even wash off the sawdust if I have time. Lol.

3m tape is like less than $10 so I'll have it mounted tomorrow. Should I ride around with it unpainted like the rice cars do?

Me too! It went from me needing only a 360.2 and a hardly complex, and less than $60 of material designed enclosure to it's going to cost roughly $600 in material and take several weekends to design project. But, it will be devastating to say the least.

Rob, I'm anxious to see it painted and installed, but you've got to paint it bro. You don't want to pay that much for the roof spoiler and not color match it to the car.

Edit: oh shit. your in nawlins xP hit me up if you find a good shop for a decent price to do it, i wouldn't mind making the drive to get it painted. the paint shops around here seem to try and get away with highway robberies D=

btw, do paint shops buy factory paint or can they make it themselves o_O

^ Make it themselves usually.

I paid $80 for my Sarona and my rear license assembly trim piece... so maybe $65 for the spoiler...

lol, we all suffer due to shipping companies. It is all good as some good deed came through just now as the body shop guy quoted me $75 to paint the roof spoiler and repaint/reinstall my type S deck lid spoiler.

Okay, I ran into a slight problem with one edge of the spoiler. I'm arranging to exchange it tomorrow. The spoiler looks great mounted but mine seems to have been smoothed too much on the top right corner so it isn't a clean flush with the window. The other side is pretty much perfectly flushed. It doesn't (and isn't supposed to) hit the actual body - just stops at the glass.

I'm not sure how much it's going to cost to paint it. I brought it to my body/paint specialist friend along with some other projects I need painted. He just said it will be somewhat difficult to get the pearl to match perfectly and that I should leave my gas door with him to get a good match to the pearl on there. He also said to get a new one because of the issue with the right corner. So, sorry guys. I won't have pics for a few weeks now.

Lol, of course I'm painting it! I've never had a part on a car (well besides test fitting) without paint. I'm eager, but I rather be patient than look that ghetto.

ha, yea, well i was in a rush to get home so i didn't have time to clean it. i actually had compressed air available too!

I can average the cost out later but I have no clue. The deal is I took it to someone who's a friend of a friend so it makes him my friend type of situation. He's supposed to be one of the best around the south so I didn't ask for pricing, just wanted quality.

Still waiting for mine. It was supposed to be here on Wednesday, but it looks like it won't arrive until Friday or even Monday.

Too bad... I would have loved to have it installed for this weekend's Hot Import Nights show

This may very well be my final exterior mod. Kind of like the cherry on top, one might say. If I can just pick one up before they are all snatched on the final release this winter.

Damn that is 1 dirty rear window.

Anyways I have been debating getting a roof spoiler for like 6 months. I still don't know if I want one or not. Sometimes I like the way they look and sometimes I like the way the car looks without it.

UPDATE:

the window had sawdust on it from a project sound system I was working on. ..which did not get finished.

The spoiler is still NOT on the car due to the edges not sitting flush.
ATLP is NOT addressing my issue. It's almost a year now since the problem occurred. My only option so far (about six months ago was last contact) was to PAY FOR SHIPPING to return it and have my original (might I add) PREORDER payment sent back to me.

F*^% that. I'm supposed to lose MORE money now?
I'm considering selling it. But I really don't want to sell a item that isn't made the way it is supposed to be made....unlike who sold it to me.
I'm also considering painting it and living with the disgusting gap.
Either way, I'll be screwed.
Thanks Mike at ATLP.
You're a real pal.

I'm following this closely now, as I am considering this purchase. The last thing I need in my life right now is to add this kind of drama all for a mail-order part. ATLP seems to have a pretty good reputation here, and I find it out of sorts for a company with this standing to not want to quickly fix an issue with a defective part shipped. Perhaps Mike can chime in here so the story isn't just one-sided...

I'd love for him to chime in. I gave up contacting him when it seemed like it was a lost cause. I understand that if you as a company are outsourcing hand made products, you will be at the mercy of your fabricator. But constant claims of, "I'll let you know in a week" or "I'll email you as soon as this happens" with no result or attempt at resolving the issue. ...other than the offering for me to return it. Well I wouldn't have preordered it if I didn't want it. I wouldn't have kept it this long if I didn't want it. When it was offered, the wing was supposedly the solution to the Sarona issue of height/slope, and was supposedly the solution we've been looking for in a custom fit roof wing. Well, I want that...only without having to pay shipping fees for the supplier's mistake. That is a business concern, not the customer's responsibility. If I ordered it a certain color and decided I didn't like that color, then I would pay to return it. My case is different though.
