Anyone into classic cars?

First off I am sorry about the shit, grainy/blurry pictures. I used my wife's Canon and she had it on a specific ISO setting and I forgot to switch it to automatic.

Anyhow, went to my in law's today with the 7424XP and took some wax and Meguiars finishing pad and gave the TL her winter coat in their garage. I thought it'd be neat afterwards to take some pictures with my father in law's 62 Bonneville.

It's all originally restored right down to the original spec tires, new frame, the body didn't need too much other than hand crafted rear quarters because the old ones just were too far gone. It does not have one aftermarket modification and personally, I appreciate that about classic cars. It's been done now for about 15 years or so and barely sees over 500 miles per year, I think the odometer is somewhere around 60K but don't hold me to that. The white is the original color and takes a VERY LONG time to buff.

He enjoys trailering it all over the country to various shows and my mother in law hates the damn thing.

Again, sorry about the pictures.

The first real pictures I go to take of my car and I screw them up.

My father in law is a Ford stamping plant retiree if you cannot tell....

Just wanted to share, thanks for looking.

I'll have to get clean pictures one of these days, they're so damn grainy my glossy white paint looks flat.

Thanks for stopping by.

the pontiac makes the TL look so small. its pretty neat though...you don't see really old cars like that in great shape. my grandfather used to have a 72 cutless. OMG that thing was a tank, got like 10mpg, but it was immaculate on the interior (it was his DD, not that he drove a lot), the exterior was in good shape, but needed a little work. otherwise it ran really well. oh his other car, an 85 cutless, in practically mint condition. i think it has 20k mi on it at most. not sure what happened to that car, but he would always get asked "how much?"

your TL is cleaning up real nice

Haha, yeah it does! Believe it or not that thing actually gets in and out of the driveway without scraping the exhaust pipes! It will also make it onto a UHaul trailer with no problems.

Old, clean cars are pretty neat. They still ride like old cars do but that's half the fun I think.

Thank you!

One of my neighbors has a '59 Coupe DeVille...and like the Pontiac above, I have no idea how people parallel parked back in the day...These coupes were MASSIVE!! Beautiful lines though, and I love how every model year showcased exterior styling changes

Yeah, who knows. It sure would be challenging, older cars are pretty sleek though. Thanks for dropping a few words.

Nice pics, I love classic cars, I keep looking around for one of my own (hopefully soon). Its just different when driving an older car, to me I love my Acura but at the end of the day its just an Acura. But pull up in an old school car and things are way different.

I am a Pontiac man from wayyyy back. My dad had a 69 Bonneville that I called the GALY...Great American Land Yacht!
I owned a 79 Trans Am and an 87 Grand Prix myself. I'll have to dig up pics and scan them.
What I noticed the most were the emblems on the front of both cars---the Pontiac arrow pointing down and the Acura A pointing up. Looks neat to me!
Thanks for sharing, Aaron!

Haha, I hear ya. The head turning is something else when you're in a cherry classic, much different than when in a nice car in general IMO.

Awesome, yeah man...see if you can find those pictures. I'll have to take a bunch here soon. My father in law and I are going to the Boyertown? Auto Museum. He loves that kind of thing and he's good company, what guy doesn't like talking cars for hours. That being said I don't think the wife and her mother will go along. LOL

Taking another look at those pictures I see what you're saying with the emblems. lol

It's cool, that's a mean machine you have there....

Was it restored as well or kept in relatively good shape and just repainted, etc.?

its an ongoing restoration. I bought it in the summer of 2009 and have just been doing the work myself since then. First the engine between my last semesters in college, than body work, paint, suspension, It only has 55K original miles, but being 30+ years old takes its toll. Its one of the projects that will never be done haha

That's cool. At least it's a rewarding never ending project, probably makes ya feel pretty good about all that you've invested when you hear it rumbling.
