Another steering wheel mod...

...from Don at Dallas Custom Steering Wheels. The skinny rim has always bothered me. I thought about retrofitting a 4G wheel but too costly/complicated. Then found a few fellow members who've used DCSW...found a cheap blank on ebay and sent it to Don. Two day turnaround...it should be here any day now but he sent me a few pix:

I wanted an OEM look but a bit beefier/sportier...mission accomplished IMO. I'll post more pix once installed...can't wait. I'm extremely impressed with Don Le and Dallas Custom Wheel thus far....wouldn't hesitate to recommend them at all.

nice dude, you're gonna love it. the leather is a much softer feel than the stock plastic feeling one. what color stitching did you get? looks like gray or white. i almost got the BMW style stitching. also looks like you got extra padding. 1/16?

Thanks guys! It just arrived today so I'll probably install tomorrow and then I'll post pix.

As Jaime stated, price is ~$349 depending on options...mine is 1/8" padding with the perforated leather so it was that price plus shipping. Sky is the limit for options and Don prices those accordingly but you can see many, many wheels that he's done at his site....some beautiful stuff.

Thanks buddy...I contemplated back & forth from 1/16" to 1/8" padding....I wanted it to be thicker (like the 4G wheel) but not too thick as to look comically beefy...it still has to fit in with the general look of the interior. But I also didn't want to spend all of this money and get something only slightly thick than OEM...so I took a chance and ordered the thicker padding. I'm glad that I did...perfect for my big mitts! I also love what you did the the Alacantra on your wheel but I didn't want to spend more, yours does look fantastic with it though.
I also opted for silver stitiching to match the seats/door panel stitching. I'm seriously consdiering the same treatment for the shift knob, boot and e-brake cover.

Anyhow...I'll post installed pix soon!

Installed!

Yeah, like I could wait until tomorrow to install it....

I apologize for my crap photog skills!

Installation was pretty starightforward...thanks to CubanLynx's tutorial. Although a few things to note...when you pull the wheel off from the splines...do it very carefully. I yanked too hard and pulled the SRS reel out and had a mess of greasy ribbon cable for the airbags on my lap...FAWK! What a PITA to coil it back up...took me an extra 45 minutes. Also, I put a dab of anti-seize on the splines to make re & re easier. Be careful, the splines are a softer metal and can damage easily!

Anyways, I LOVE the thicker wheel...feels perfect in my big hands. One of the most worthwhile mods in my book!

That wheel is absolutely perfect! One of the only complaints I have with my TL-S is the skinny steering wheel rim with the crappy feeling leather. I'm not much of a modder anymore (having 3 girls tends eat up any and all disposable income I have) but this is one that I would seriously consider doing.

Thanks again guys...went for a nice spirited drive in the twisties this morning...I gotta say that the fatter rim really helps in steering wheel control...at least for my big mitts...love this mod!
